Description
Power Delivery Solutions Architect
Purpose: This position provides technical and business leadership to the Power Delivery Technology Solutions (PDTS) portfolios in the SCS Technology Organization (TO) and works with other technical departments (Infrastructure Services, Database Services, Development Strategies and Standards, etc.) on behalf of PDTS and its business partners. The position leads and participates in design/analysis/development during the entire solution development life cycle for large and complex solutions, architectural reviews, education and mentoring and problem resolution as required to implement and support Power Delivery technology solutions. The Solutions Architect will be able to work with executive team members, decision makers, and stakeholders to define strategies, requirements and tactical objectives needed to provide the technology capability to support the evolving Power Delivery mission.
The Solutions Architect provides consulting expertise to the business partners, helps guide technology decisions in order to maintain integrity across systems and provides project leadership on selected projects. They will apply proven communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills to help identify, communicate, and resolve issues in order to maximize the benefit of the systems investments in support of the business.
Job Responsibilities
- This position leads the collaborative development of the short and long-term planning of the network, compute and data architectures of the SCS Power Delivery Technology Solutions organization.
- Continuous engagement with PDTS and Business management and technology/governance teams to understand the pipeline of business needs requiring network, compute, and data capabilities
- Active engagement during the initiation of projects by providing early high-level solutions analysis to define the needed technology capability and as a contributor to the development of proposals and business cases.
- Identify and communicate the strategic implications of emerging technologies and capabilities (IoT, IT/OT convergence, Digital Labor, Smart initiatives, DER/VER management, grid modernization, etc. and define how they can align to the Power Delivery and industry needs and identify the impact to existing technology stacks. Manage the convergence of existing technology solutions to these new emerging capabilities and ensure compliance with enterprise strategies.
- Collaborate within the greater Technology Organization (Infrastructure Services, Database Services, Development Strategies and Standards, etc) with the objective to learn and communicate emerging technologies and evolving technology strategies within the PDTS organization.
- Conduct architecture reviews for all new solutions and platforms including vendor solutions, internal development and interfaces and/or data communications in preparation for and through the various TVP and ARB processes. Initiate and conduct periodic reviews to ensure optimized performance and data availability.
- Provide leadership and oversight associated with technology lifecycle management and Enterprise Strategies.
- Consult with the Technology Planning Analysts on the development of business and technology strategies and roadmaps.
- Provide a basis for and oversight of TO development standards both for internal development and with our vendors, provide coaching to the PDTS team as needed. Consult with development teams to ensure code reviews are completed for both internally and externally developed solutions.
- Collaborate with the PDTS Data Analyst to ensure that data management (acquisition, storing, sharing, analytics, etc.) are an embedded capability in all new development or major solution upgrades.
- B.S. in Computer Science, Software Engineering or equivalent technology area.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Azure and/or Amazon Web Services
- Experience with web design and working with common frameworks, Bootstrap, Foundation, etc.
- Good understanding of REST/SOAP Web Services
- Experience with SAML/WS-Fed/Other Federation protocols
- Experience with SSIS, SRRS, and other ETL tools
- The ability to envision, define and shape innovative concepts and system solutions around evolving requirements, technology, and market capabilities to support Power Delivery projects as needed to meet strategic business objectives.
- The ability to understand emerging technologies and concepts involved in the Power Delivery arena and to determine if/how they can be applied to meet the needs of the business
- Expert knowledge of computing infrastructure and architectural design concepts and their application to strategic and tactical architecture decisions
- Knowledge of business, energy industry trends, opportunities and challenges - especially as it relates to Power Delivery
• Strong understanding of application development, software evaluation practices and enterprise design
- Ability to build productive relationships with a focus on cooperation & teamwork both in the business and TO
- Ability to build consensus and present a strategic rather than tactical vision and be able to influence others
• Ability to handle multiple assignments and conflicting priorities; Able to prioritize and execute tasks independently in a high-pressure environment
• Strong interpersonal skills; communicates effectively (verbal & written) with all levels of client, peer and TO management
• Ability to present ideas in easy to understand business language
