About the role

As the Application Development Manager is accountable for the IT Development team's technical direction as well as the development, maintenance, support and/or enhancement of a set of Symetra applications that support critical business functions. The applications developed and supported may either be a custom developed solution or a vendor provided packaged solution that requires a combination of development and configuration. You will also be responsible for staff management, on-time and on-budget delivery, quality and availability of applications and services.

What you'll do

  • Responsible for delivering and supporting technology solutions that include legacy and contemporary applications.
  • Drive project delivery and manage projects at an enterprise level.
  • Provide leadership support to application team by facilitating collaborative, inclusive discussions for technical solutions, overall delivery excellence, team dynamics, motivation, and problem solving.
  • Support a technical team who write API code in .NET Core and Python.
  • Author documentation for technical deliverables.
  • Recognize code patterns, and conduct code reviews and approvals.
  • Drive technical roadmap and direction.
  • Provide individual guidance to each team member to ensure their overall job satisfaction, needs, future goals, and expectations were accounted for.
  • Work in collaboration with the Product Owner and Scrum Master to support the agile principles, processes and striving for a productive, motivated, and highly functional team.
  • Act in the capacity of on call by providing off-hours production support and supporting release activities to ensure high availability of critical systems.
  • Help plan and manage budget for technical team, their applications, and staffing needs.

Salary Range: $117,900 - $196,500 plus eligibility for the company annual bonus program target of 10%.

Requirements

Your Skills and Experience

  • A bachelor's degree in information systems or equivalent work experience.
  • 3-6+ years of overall experience in software industry, development (JavaScript/.NET/TypeScript) and DevOps (Azure CI/CD) space.
  • Previous experience managing people is preferred.
  • Track record of meeting deadlines and delivering high quality results.
  • Experience with AWS
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with the IT organization
  • Excellent understanding of software development industry best practices and strategies. Experience developing and maintaining policies, procedures, standards, and guidelines.
