Applied Research Scientist, Computer Vision

As an Applied Research Scientist at CLEAR, you will be responsible for all aspects of biometrics research and related data science to power CLEAR biometrically enabled services.
You will be one of the founding members of the Applied Science team, which offers a unique opportunity to shape new applications. You will optimize existing products and assess the feasibility of new products.

What you'll do:

• Evaluate and tune CLEAR’s biometric SDKs for face, finger, and iris recognition
• Help engineers validate algorithm improvements in production
• Design algorithms or train models to estimate sample quality, demographic differential of algorithms, and user behavior
• Implement published algorithms and benchmark them on CLEAR’s data
• Help design and spec out imaging systems to capture the best possible face images
• Initiate data science and machine learning projects to optimize biometric algorithms in operation for an improved user experience and business efficiency
• Tackle the most challenging problems first
• Adhere to strict security and privacy policies when accessing data

How you'll measure success:

• Knowledge of biometric algorithms and how they work in CLEAR’s applications
• Thorough understanding of biometric performance evaluation under ISO 19795-X, including evaluation of demographic differentials
• Guidance to the biometrics team in implementing performance evaluation tools
• Development of methods and policies to establish more accurate ground truth
• Theoretical and practical understanding of face, finger and iris sample quality

What you're great at:

• PhD or Master's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field, with a focus on computer vision, biometrics, or machine learning
• 5+ years of industry experience in applied research, with a demonstrated track record of successful projects in computer vision, biometrics, or machine learning
• Strong programming skills in Python, C++, or other relevant languages
• Experience with machine learning frameworks such as TensorFlow or PyTorch
• Solid understanding of the probability theory underlying machine learning and data science
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a keen attention to detail
• Familiarity with at least one of facial recognition, fingerprint recognition, or iris recognition, preferred

The base salary range for this role is $150,000 - $200,000, depending on levels of skills and experience.

The base salary range represents the low and high end of CLEAR’s salary range for this position. Salaries will vary depending on various factors which include, but are not limited to location, education, skills, experience and performance. The range listed is just one component of CLEAR’s total compensation package for employees and other rewards may include annual bonuses, commission, Restricted Stock Units
