We are looking for a talented Applied Technology Technical Advisor - Acoustics to join our team specializing in Acoustics Engineering for our Power Systems Business in a hybrid role based in Fridley, MN and your remote home office.

In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:
  • Obtains input and negotiates with Design, Thermal Sciences, Materials and Product Validation as well as vendors and delivers key structural performance parameters like motion, load, natural frequencies, stress, design margin, life, sound power to Design and Product Validation as well as vendors.
  • Uses systems knowledge and expertise to make decisions in the area of structural testing and data analysis that impact structural performance (motion, load, natural frequencies, stress, design margin, life, sound power) of components and systems.
  • Creates, manages, improves, and applies testing and measurement methods that determine motion, load, natural frequencies, stress, design margin, life, sound power and tools such as vibration analysis, digital signal processing, instrumentation and strain gaging required to support the processes and enable high quality decision making.
  • Provides problem resolution leadership for complex systems with a high degree of ambiguity and often global business impact.
  • Leads the development and improvement of work processes and systems across function(s) within a global business unit or managing improvement across business units.
  • Coordinates and directs work of technical project teams, up to and including direct management of small to mid-sized teams.
  • Operates as the recognized multi-competency specialist or expert in a discipline or product area across a site or global business unit with responsibility for developing local talent (direct or indirect).
  • Coaches and mentors other engineers, project managers and cross-functional team members.
  • May also include academic or industry collaboration in a competency or discipline area.

Qualifications

To be successful in this role you will need the following:
  • College, university, or equivalent Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering with specialization in Acoustics required.
  • PhD in Acoustics preferred for highly specialized areas such as computational noise.
  • This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.
  • Prior Technical Specialist or entry level Technical Advisor equivalent work experience in a product, technology or engineering service role with demonstrated success leading projects and influencing outcomes through either direct or indirect reporting relationships. Must have a demonstrated track record of technical problem solving, quality decision making, providing technical direction and leadership to a project team(s).
  • Experience with acoustic noise modeling software packages using Boundary Elements, Finite Elements and Statistical Energy Analysis.
  • Skills in experimental data analysis to correlate models and ability to efficiently integrate complex analytical tools into the product design process.
  • Skills in troubleshooting noise and vibrations problems with mechanical systems as related to product development.
  • Able to solve Acoustic's issues in the field to satisfy Customer requirements
  • Able to develop patents, develop new tools and methods in the Acoustics field
  • Provide innovative solutions to product development
  • Understanding of basic statistics and Design of Experiments.
  • Strategic thinking and planning to come up with technical directions for management and product/program teams for new product development
  • Technological advancements planning to set goals and work towards developing the technology
  • Understanding regulation impact or regulation advantage for shaping our technology and product development
  • Intellectual property development and usage for new product design and development
  • Supporting CMI's critical requirements such as law suits and customer critical initiatives
  • Understand standards and leading them w.r.t. advancement of organization goals.

Compensation and Benefits

Base salary rate commensurate with experience.
