The Opportunity
We are looking for an Appraiser. As an Appraiser, you'll play a critical role in enforcing the fundamental fairness values on which our company was founded. You'll be asked to push the boundaries of what's required and to think critically as to what our customers want and to how that best aligns with our product. By collecting information, making recommendations for claims processes to iterate towards automation and further develop our app features, you'll be helping to build and enhance an entirely new insurance experience from the ground up. This role is vital to Root's success as we continue to rapidly grow and is largely responsible for our bottom line.
Root is a "work where it works best" company. Meaning we will support you working in whatever location that works best for you across the US. We will continue to have our headquarters in Columbus and offices in other locations to give more flexibility and more choice about how we live and work.
Salary Range: $61,000 - $70,000
How You Will Make an Impact
- Delivers an industry-leading claim experience for all policyholders and claimants
- Writes, reviews and/or issues payment for vehicle repairs or vehicle replacement
- Creates accurate vehicle repair estimates based upon owner-provided vehicle damage photos and other supporting documentation
- Reviews supplemental requests for additional repairs or parts usage
- Prepare total loss evaluations for policyholders and claimants
- Consistently makes prompt and courteous contact with every claim customer
- Maintains and updates a diary/schedule for each claim in the appraiser's pending
- Responds to claim correspondence in a timely fashion with very high quality
- Coordinates the repair of damaged vehicles, and proactively manages rentals
- Provides input for continuous development of claims guidelines and best practices
- Recommends potential product developments and process improvements
- Interacts and communicates effectively with customers, peers, vendors and managers
- Engages in learning opportunities to build knowledge of personal lines claims, court decisions impacting the claims function, current guidelines in claims function, and policy changes and modifications
What You Will Need to Succeed
- 1+ years of successful experience handling insurance claims writing estimates, approving supplements, coordinating rental extensions, and running vehicle valuations
- Strong experience using CCC software in writing estimates, selecting parts, handling supplements and evaluating total losses is preferred
- Ability to obtain and maintain insurance licenses in multiple states
- Strong technical understanding of repair process and alternative parts options
- High sense of professionalism while remaining empathetic
- Familiarity with claims best practices required
- Curious in nature
- Great attention to detail
- Ability to approach problems with an open mind
