The Magna Exteriors portfolio of products includes access systems such as liftgates, exterior trim, modular systems, front-end modules including fascia, active aerodynamic systems and other lightweight structural components for automotive, commercial truck and other industrial markets.

Role Summary
• To exhibit a fair and consistent management approach, which follows the principles outlined in The Magna Employee's Charter to ensure a satisfied and productive employee workplace.• To persuade and support the following of Company policies and business objectives in the daily management of the operations of the Company.• To identify growth and developmental opportunities and on-going training needs of engineering personnel, which provide for an overall positive working environment.• To lead and direct department environmental, health and safety objectives and to support Company directed environmental, health and safety directives which provide for a safe and healthful workplace for all Norplas employees that includes:
1. Establishing departmental measurables and goals that are monitored, tracked and audited on a regular basis and communicated to employees through daily Team Meetings.
2. Maintain and post Open Issues Lists within the department that identify opportunities to improve safety related issues and develop action plans to actively address identified issues in a timely manner.
3. Recognize specific achievements within the department regarding improvements in safety, environmental, ergonomics and employee wellness.
4. Enforce all Norplas safety rules and regulations consistently and hold Team Leaders accountable for enforcing said rules.
5. Actively participate in Accident Investigations and correct unsafe conditions in a prudent and timely manner.
• Manage the engineering department and all activities therein by meeting or exceeding the needs of our customers, both internally and externally:
a) while developing product from concept to production;
b) by providing tools that are safe, of sound design, and capable of manufacturing quality products according to customer requirements and the Norplas Tooling Manual;
c) by promoting the development of new processes and techniques that improve quality, productivity and customer satisfaction;
d) by supporting continuous improvement in APQP concepts; and
e) by developing procedures and work instructions that support APQP and TS-16949 requirements.
Key Responsibilities
• Support development of the product by effective product quality plans including control plans, FMEA's, timing charts, open issue reports, process and product validation, flow charts and all APQP requirements.• Ensure customer satisfaction by providing design and technical assistance in design reviews and presentations as well as competitive estimates for tooling and product.• Lead and supervise Program Managers, the Advanced Quality Manager, and the Tooling Manager. Determine and assign program assignments for all engineering personnel, provide direction and technical assistance as needed. Conduct performance reviews for engineering team members in accordance with Company policy.• Determine and maintain appropriate manning levels and resources for current program needs.• Support current production of product by executing customer initiated engineering changes. Provide support error proofing and continuous improvement activities.• Develop methods, procedures and work instructions to successfully manage:
a) competitive quoting for product and tools
b) effective cost tracking and launching tools within planned costs
c) launch of new product• Develop long term and short term departmental budgets.• Identify and develop performance objectives and measurables for engineering for the measuring of continuous improvement objectives by tracking and charting results.• Assist the implementation of TS-16949 objectives by providing engineering support to the steering committee as an active leader of assigned elements and other assistance as needed.• Participate as a member of cross-functional teams for APQP, continuous improvement, and other corrective action as required.• Must have the ability to comprehend the quoting process for new business and participate in the sign off authorization for molded, painted and assembled plastic parts ensuring Company objectives for profitability are met after manufacturing cost parameters are analyzed and entered correctly.• Ensure that all accidents are properly reported and accident investigations are completed within 24 hours.• Perform other duties and special projects as required.
Key Qualifications/Requirements
• Minimum seven years engineering management experience required.
