This position will be field based with approximately 75% of time in the field within the U.S. Southwest.
The Archaeological Field Lead will primarily be responsible for oversight of a field-based archaeological monitoring team throughout large-scale construction projects. The Archaeological Field Lead will primarily be responsible for coordinating daily cultural compliance activities and monitoring duties during construction activities.
In addition your role will be to:

  • Attend project coordination meetings and perform daily site inspections
  • Act as a technical lead to archaeological field monitors
  • Act as a resource to construction personnel to interpret cultural resource regulations and how they are applied in the field
  • Act as a point of contact for the Compliance Inspection Contractor, client, and Construction Contractor(s)
  • Verify that culturally sensitive areas are properly marked and flagged before work begins and inspect signage and flagging for duration of the project
  • Coordinate daily with field archaeologists to discuss activities and areas of concern
  • Lead field kickoff meetings
  • Assign responsibilities to field archaeologists
  • Direct and position archaeological staff for monitoring or survey activities, to include creating weekly monitoring schedules and location assignments for each staff member in accordance with the schedule of construction activities
  • Coordinate with archaeological field monitors and construction personnel to provide necessary information and facilitate regular communication among all parties
  • Inspect areas of concern identified by field monitors and make appropriate recommendations to construction personnel, as required
  • Review field reports for consistency and accuracy
  • Work alongside stakeholders and cultural engagement teams

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in archaeology, anthropology, or related field of study
  • Ability to obtain State and Federal archaeological permits within the U.S. Southwest and/or Great Basin
  • Member of the Register of Professional Archaeologists preferred
  • Minimum 5 years professional experience in a cultural resources, archaeology, or related role
  • Cultural monitoring experience working on BLM lands in the southwestern United States
  • Experience related to transmission line construction projects
  • Demonstrated experience leading field work and coordinating with other field-based resource teams
  • Professional experience working on projects regulated under NEPA or state-equivalent
  • Strong working knowledge of cultural resource legislation and regulations
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills – data collection and interpretation, technical report writing, regulatory permit applications, client communications, etc. 
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving skills, prioritizing and decision-making skills
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously with minimal supervision
  • Detail-oriented, self-motivated and highly organized with strong problem-solving skills
  • Ability to build strong, lasting relationships with key stakeholders
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Google Earth, ArcGIS Online, and ArcGIS FieldMaps
  • Valid Driver’s License, with ability to maintain insurability under the company’s insurance carrier
