Job Description

Our mission is to implement high design projects that holistically embrace sustainable design principles while utilizing Wight’s unique Integrated Delivery Services. Wight is currently in search of an Architect, with a strong professional drive with great passion and self-direction, to join our collaborative and engaging practice in the Darien office location.

Architect position requires a developed understanding of design and technical aspects of projects to lead project teams in a manner that develops team confidence, efficiency, and productivity. Potential candidates should have strong analytical and problem-solving skills and a passion for high quality design and collaborative process.  This position requires thorough understanding of all project phases including programming/conceptual design, schematic design, design development, construction documents and construction contract administration.  Potential candidates must have public safety project experience including but not limited to fire and/or police station and training facilities.

Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrates advanced understanding and application of design practices, theories, and methods.
  • Understands overall building design concepts, objectives and critical issues and applies knowledge to tasks and assignments.
  • Understand and respond to the technical implications of design decisions.
  • Exercise creative judgment to find appropriate and compelling design solutions.
  • Research and bring new ideas, processes, and innovations to the project design.
  • Assist in facilitating firm and project goals of excellence in design, execution, and sustainability.
  • Assist in technical leadership and coordination including development of design and technical documentation.
  • Develops and prepares contract documents, plans and details.
  • Evaluates and integrates engineering systems into overall project documents.
  • Prepares mock-ups of drawing packages/deliverables.
  • Coordinates drawings and specifications.
  • Implement code, accessibility and zoning analyses.
  • Exhibit understanding and ability to perform all project related construction contract administrative responsibilities for an assigned project (with minimal oversight from a Senior Architect).
  • Understand and perform within constraints of project budgets and schedules.
  • May participate in marketing presentations and client meeting.
  • Coordinate contractors, consultants and vendors on an assigned project.
  • May organize, direct and mentor junior staff.
  • Effectively organize work efforts and self-monitors time spent on tasks.

Qualifications:

  • 6+ years of progressive fire and/or police station design professional experience in production of contract documents and performed construction administration services and leading project teams.
  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Architecture from an Accredited School.
  • Licensed Architect.
  • LEED AP or BP+C certification desirable.
  • Experience in all phases and aspects of a project
  • Intermediate experience in project design, construction documentation production and construction materials
  • Collaborative and professional work ethic
  • Basic understanding of project management processes.
  • Experience in and readiness to assist in leading the development of technical details of projects.
  • Strong and effective verbal and written communication skills and excellent graphic presentation skills.
  • Proficient Revit user adept with the latest Building Information Modelling, clash detection, and rendering tools as well as having familiarity with other energy modelling and analytical technologies used during exploration and construction documentation processes.
  • Intermediate knowledge of Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign and 3D software.
