About the Role:    

Our Assistant Controller position is a critical new position being added to the Finance function at Gradient AI. This person will own the day-to-day Accounting Function from the ground up and will report to the Director of Finance & Administration. An ideal candidate in this position would demonstrate a strong ability to interpret and apply accounting principles in accordance with US GAAP and will have excellent project management skills.  

How you will make an impact: 

• Manage the monthly financial reporting close process through the production of the US GAAP financials, including preparation, review and analysis of monthly account reconciliations 
• Oversee the accounting function, including operational accounting such as account mapping, posting journals, and training  
• Handle systems management user support, application changes, and new functionality for QuickBooks Online, Carta, Expensify, and Brex 
• Provide technical accounting expertise in several critical areas, including SAAS revenue recognition topics under ASC 606, and deferred costs under ASC340 
• Evaluate system processes across the organization and lead projects to streamline and improve internal and external reporting 
• Lead the internal process and external support for annual financial audits, quarterly reviews, and tax filings 
• Provide monthly departmental reporting package to senior members of the management team 
• Review and support interpretation of customer and vendor contracts as it relates to US GAAP 
• Support Ad-hoc projects as needed by either the Director, Finance & Administration or the CFO 

 Skills needed to succeed:   

• 7+ years of prior accounting experience 
• CPA required; Big 4 public accounting experience preferred 
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, Economics or relevant field 
• Insurance / SAAS experience preferred 
• Strong system skills preferred such as ERP system roll-outs and/or scaling system implementations 
• Strong leadership and communication skills
