The Assistant Controller oversees the accounting daily operations, cash receipts, general ledger, payroll, reconciliations, check runs, and fixed asset activity. This person will also perform identified accounting functions, assist the Controller with expenditure variance analysis and will adhere to proper accounting methods, policies, and principles. As the Assistant Controller, you will be responsible for the leadership and mentorship of accounting staff at two office locations as well as remote staff members.  You are the type of leader that is willing to roll up your sleeves when needed, leading by example.  You are a player/coach and believe in driving your team to be the best it can be while promoting and adhering to the industry accounting standards.  The ideal candidate is someone who is extremely self-driven and looking to branch outside of their comfort zone, growing their careers to the next level. 

 What You'll Do

  • Manage daily transactional accounting activities across the Financial Statements
  • Manage month end close and reporting
  • Assist other departments as they develop strategies, establish objectives, and make decisions that could have a financial impact on the business
  • Set up and monitor accounting KPIs
  • Assist the Controller in ensuring accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and year end close
  • Collaborate with FP&A and accounting management to develop relevant and timely reports on financial data analytics like the monthly flash report, key financial metrics, and actual spend against budgets/outlook
  • Supervise, manage, and direct accounting functions, including AR invoicing, accounts payable, and general ledgers
  • Supervises accounting staff, assigns and reviews work, and takes actions to adjust work, staffing and operations to meet requirements
  • Selects, trains and evaluates staff, and takes appropriate actions to improve performance when necessary
  • Initiates actions regarding hiring, transfer, promotion, leaves, performance and other personnel actions
  • Develop, implement and maintain systems, policies and procedures, adherence to US GAAP, IFRS, Sarbanes-Oxley, and Company guidelines
  • Experience analyzing large data sets to analyze risk and impact and working with business partners to effect changes
  • Monitor, review and verify accounting records and transactions for accuracy, timeliness and adequacy of supporting documentation
  • Manage account reconciliations and production of regularly scheduled summary reports
  • Provide feedback for the development of accounting procedures
  • Examine and evaluate internal methods and procedures for adequacy of internal controls. Make recommendations and implement changes as needed
  • Assist in the annual audit, as needed
  • Oversee the preparation of quarterly debt covenant reporting
  • Follow up on variances in general ledger accounts located through detail analytical review

About You

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
  • 7-10 years of accounting and 2-3 years of managerial experience
  • Expert level Microsoft Excel skills
  • Experience working with ERP systems, preferably Workday Financials
  • Experience at a $100m+ revenue company preferred
  • Both technical and operational knowledge of U.S. GAAP
  • Detail-oriented and organizational skills
  • Extremely driven individual looking to grow in their career by expanding outside of their comfort zone, and take on new challenges/skills
  • Ability to prioritize to meet time-sensitive deadlines consistently
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills with the demonstrated ability to communicate complex information to all levels of the organization
  • Self-starter with the ability to work with a sense of urgency without sacrificing accuracy
  • Ability to travel, as necessary
  • This position is preferred to sit in Austin, Texas
