ABOUT THE POSITION
The Assistant Director of Institutional Giving is an integral member of the Development team and assists with the acquisition and stewardship of foundation donors. They work with the Chief Development Officer and Director of Institutional Giving to manage a portfolio of foundation and corporate gifts totaling $7M. The position works to advance the evolving priorities of the Innocence Project by researching and identifying new prospective funders and soliciting new and renewed support.
This individual reports to the Director of Institutional Giving and works closely with all other members of the Development Department and collaborates with staff members from other programmatic departments in order to synthesize information for donor proposals and reports.
We are interested in every qualified candidate who is eligible to work in the United States. However, we are not able to sponsor visas.
The duties of this position require approximately 40 hours of work per week to be performed virtually/in-office. While the Innocence Project has supported remote work throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, we are currently committed to a hybrid workplace with mandatory three days per week in-office. The number of required in-office days is subject to change.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
ACQUISITION AND STEWARDSHIP OF INSTITUTIONAL DONORS
- Develops new funding proposals and continuously updates existing proposals and reports to foundation and corporate funders; ensures that all such documentation communicates the IP’s compelling mission, most recent accomplishments, and future plans.
- Works with the Director of Institutional Giving and CDO to conduct meetings with Innocence Project leadership and institutional funders; develops briefing memos for participating staff and board members.
- Works with the Director of Institutional Giving to implement an effective renewal and Moves Management program for all institutional donors.
- Guides the research and advancement of new opportunities for institutional support.
- Manage the deadlines for proposals, reports and stewardship related to institutional giving in collaboration with others on the Development team.
DEVELOP AND MANAGE MATERIALS FOR DEVELOPMENT USE
- Provides writing and editing support to the development department at-large.
- Participates in staff meetings, working groups, and other activities that increase knowledge of subjects/projects for donor reporting.
- Develops written materials that communicate the IP’s compelling mission, most recent accomplishments, and future plans.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- Master's degree, or Bachelor's + equivalent specialized experience or training
- Minimum 7 years or more of related professional experience, including at least 3 years in nonprofit development or communications.
- Superior knowledge of Microsoft Office products, especially Word and Excel; familiarity with donor database programs such as Salesforce.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S.
