Assistant Financial Controller

As an Assistant Financial Controller, you will be coming in at an exciting time for IG Group after last year's acquisition of tastytrade, Inc. and the sale of North American Derivatives Exchange earlier in the year. The US Operations are one of the Group’s significant growth areas, so you would have a critical part to play to ensure that the US is tuned for growth. 

You will be part of a team critical to achieving a robust financial control environment to ensure the safeguarding of company and client assets and the accuracy and completeness of financial and regulatory reporting. You will also report to the Regional Financial Controller.

What you’ll do:

• Day-to-day responsibility for meeting regulatory and statutory filing obligations of regulated entities
• Day-to-day financial management and responsibility for systems, processes and controls over financial reporting for US entities
• Review daily reports including debt reports, broker reconciliation reports, large exposure reports and daily cash reports
• Assistance with preparation of monthly and annual financial statements, and other regulatory filings
• Assistance with daily client money and asset segregation calculations and monthly reports
• Build a strong relationship with risk and compliance to support external reporting requirements, and with other Financial Controllers across the group to drive consistency and continuous improvement across the function
• Drive continual process improvement and maintain effective oversight of operations performed by the Finance Operations and Financial Control team in Krakow
• Establish and maintain financial controls over financial reporting in compliance with US GAAP. Review and challenge processes with the aim of continual control and operational improvement
• Support Regional Financial Controller and Group Tax team with tax matters impacting the US Region Entities. Assistance with providing and preparing documentation for tax return, including state, federal and annual franchise tax returns
• Develop strong relationships with internal stakeholders, including the treasury, tax and finance operations team, and external stakeholders, including the external auditors and industry regulators
• Assistance with month-end and year-end close activities including preparation or review of required journal entries, intercompany allocations, etc.
• Review of monthly reconciliation of balance sheet accounts, including accruals, prepaids, property, and intercompany accounts
• Preparation of monthly and annual financial statements and other regulatory filings
• Assistance with treasury function including ensuring appropriate handling of client funds, adherence to intercompany treasury agreements, etc.
• Overseeing weekly accounts payable runs and other AP-related tasks as needed to support the needs of the business

Who you are:

• Audit experience
• Prior financial service experience or an interest in the trading industry
• Ability to thrive in a dynamic environment which can be subject to regulatory and commercial changes
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to dive into the detail as well as operating at a high level
• Ability to work with an international range internal stakeholders
• A proactive attitude and the ability to challenge the status quo with insightful and diverse perspectives
• CPA or equivalent
• Degree qualified or equivalent
