In partnership with a Lab Manager, this position is accountable for performing administrative and technical tasks daily in support of the Chen and Acosta-Alvear lab's operational needs and research. Responsibilities include:
- Manage day-to-day activities within the research laboratories, e.g., ensuring adequate supplies are available for routine experimental procedures and essential equipment is operational.
- Implement and optimize procedures in the lab, e.g., stockroom layout, inventory management, and environmental footprint reduction, in collaboration with lab members and support teams.
- Develop and maintain laboratory guidelines, SOPs, and procedure manuals.
- Act as liaison between the lab and the operations team on issues such as fixed asset inventories, receiving, EH&S, and compliance.
- Develop and maintain lab collections and databases.
- Place orders and receive items as needed.
- Prepare media and stock solutions as needed.
- Use the autoclave and dishwasher as needed.
- Oversee Bio Safety Level 2 tissue culture room cleanliness, e.g., monitor and execute incubator sterilization, Bio Safety Cabinet cleaning, and medical waste disposal.
- Expand and bank mammalian cell lines.
- Carry out molecular and cell biology techniques as part of ongoing projects in the lab.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in the Life Sciences or other relevant field.
- A minimum of 2+ years of relevant experience with molecular and cellular biology experimental techniques.
- Solid understanding of underlying scientific principles with the demonstrated ability to learn new laboratory techniques.
- A strong interest in laboratory operations, along with a genuine desire to help and support.
- Strong attention to detail with highly accurate work products.
- Good computer skills, including proficiency with the Mac platform, Microsoft Office Suite, and Google Workplace, with the ability to learn new software applications.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Able to interact effectively with a wide variety of people at all levels. Ability to work inclusively and collaboratively with a diverse population.
- Ability to use good judgment in responding to inquiries.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to work efficiently.
- Ability to be a team player who can work well both as part of a large group and independently.
- Ability to keep accurate records of work performed via Benchling.
- Actively seeks opportunities to increase skills and expertise.
Preferred Qualifications
- Lab management experience.
Salary range: 89,250 - 120,750
