This role involves extensive travel (approximately 90% of the time) and work in confined spaces.

Job Summary: The Assistant Manager - Heavy Equipment & Environmental Specialist will play a crucial role in overseeing heavy equipment operations and environmental projects that involve remediation, land restoration, general waste stream managment. This role requires a strong background in heavy equipment management, environmental regulations, confined space entry protocols, and safety procedures. The Assistant Manager will collaborate closely with the managerial team, field staff, and clients to ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with regulatory standards.
Responsibilities:
- Assist the Manager in planning, organizing, and overseeing heavy equipment operations for various environmental projects, including remediation, land restoration, and industrial cleaning.
- Manage a team of field technicians and equipment operators, providing guidance, training, and performance evaluations.
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and regulatory agencies to ensure compliance with environmental regulations and standards, including confined space entry protocols.
- Oversee the proper handling, transportation, and disposal of hazardous and non-hazardous materials, including lab packing of waste materials.
- Coordinate equipment maintenance schedules, ensuring that all heavy equipment is functioning optimally and safely.
- Participate in project planning and scheduling, resource allocation, and budget management, considering the challenges of travel and confined spaces.
- Monitor and enforce safety protocols, particularly those related to confined space entry, promoting a culture of safety consciousness among all team members.
- Review project documentation, including work plans, reports, and permits, to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Provide technical expertise and problem-solving support during field operations, troubleshooting issues as they arise, including confined space challenges.
- Foster strong client relationships through effective communication and collaboration, addressing any concerns or inquiries promptly.
- Manage travel logistics and accommodations efficiently while adhering to project timelines.
- Stay current with industry trends, regulations, and best practices to continuously improve project execution and efficiency, especially in confined spaces.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
- Minimum of [X] years of experience in heavy equipment operations, environmental remediation, lab packing, and industrial cleaning, with exposure to confined spaces.
- Strong understanding of environmental regulations and compliance standards, including confined space safety protocols.
- Proven experience in managing and leading teams, with excellent interpersonal and leadership skills.
- Proficiency in project management, including scheduling, resource allocation, and budgeting.
- Knowledge of heavy equipment maintenance and troubleshooting.
- Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
- High attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, even in confined spaces.
- Valid Driver's License/CDL and ability to operate heavy equipment.
