Job Description
Primary Responsibilities:
- Develop an Extension program in wildlife and feral hog damage management across central and north Texas
- Provide technical expertise on wildlife damage management, especially feral hogs.
- Develop an applied research program to support Extension efforts in management and mitigation related to feral hogs.
- Use traditional and innovative Extension outreach techniques to educate landowners/managers, representatives of wildlife and natural resource organizations, state and federal agencies and trade associations.
- Provide support and training for Extension County Programs and County Agents.
- Work closely with Texas A&M AgriLife Extension and Research personnel in the Department of Rangeland, Wildlife, and Fisheries Management and other relevant departments to develop a nationally recognized Extension program.
- Cooperate and coordinate with USDA-APHIS/TWS, TPWD, USFWS), NGOs (East Foundation, TWA, Welder Wildlife Foundation), regional universities (Tarleton State University, Sul Ross State University), and other entities across Texas to identify priority needs and achieve common wildlife management goals.
- Coordinate Extension programming and applied research with closely aligned faculty/staff at the AgriLife Center at Stephenville, Texas and other AgriLife Centers across the state as appropriate.
- Secure funding from internal and external sources and publish results of creative Extension and applied research projects in appropriate outlets including Extension factsheets/bulletins, web sites/social media, peer-reviewed outlets and trade publications.
- Participate, as practical, in mentoring/training graduate students and provide service to the Department of Rangeland, Wildlife, and Fisheries Management, the Texas A&M AgriLife Research and Extension Center at Stephenville, Texas A&M AgriLife Extension, and professional societies or organizations.
Required Qualifications:
- A Ph.D. completed by December 31, 2024, in Wildlife Management, Ecology, Conservation or a closely related discipline.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent managerial skills.
Desirable Qualifications
- Advanced knowledge and experience in wildlife damage and/or feral hog management.
- The ideal candidate will have experience in conducting outreach and applied research in wildlife damage management or related area to facilitate Extension programming.
- Evidence of scholarship through scientific and/or Extension presentations and publications.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate and collaborate with diverse audiences including faculty, stakeholders, and other clientele.
