Serves as a Site Director for Ft. Huachuca Language Training Detachment (LTD), at Sierra Vista, AZ, under LREC Operational Programs, Continuing Education (CE) Directorate, Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center (DLIFLC).

This position is a TERM time limited position tenure track. The initial appointment is not to exceed (NTE) 36 months, and may be extended upon mission, funding, and management discretion.
  • Applicants who do not possess a current, valid U.S. work authorization may not be appointed for 36 months but will receive an appointment aligned to their work authorization status, to include those who may only be appointed for less than one year, who will receive a TEMPORARY Tenure 0 appointment.

POSITION WILL BE FILLED AT ONE RANK: AD-1701-04 Assistant Professor

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant work experience and education level (degree and year awarded); official transcripts/foreign transcript evaluation will be requested upon selection.   • Must be able to speak, read and write in English fluently.

ASSISTANT PROFESSOR:

Basic Requirement:

Bachelor's degree in one of the following: Educational Leadership, Second Language Acquisition, Foreign Language Education, Teaching English as a Second/Foreign Language (TESOL/TEFL), Linguistics, Language (English included), Literature, Educational/Instructional technology, Cross-Cultural Studies, Intercultural Communication and Translation & Interpretation. (NOTE: Attach a copy of your transcripts for verification).

TWO (2) YEARS SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE, WHICH IS DEFINED AS: relevant professional expertise or experience in two or more of the five following core areas that demonstrates significant contributions to an adult foreign language educational program.

- foreign language teaching

- foreign language curriculum development

- foreign language faculty development

- foreign language testing

- foreign language program management

LANGUAGE EVALUATION: The minimum English proficiency is a Level 2 in speaking. The proficiency levels are defined by the Interagency Language Roundtable (ILR) level descriptions and can be viewed at http://www.govtilr.org. Failure of any portion of the language tests will disqualify applicants for a period of 6 months. Applicants may re-apply after 6 months. Upon subsequent selection, retesting is allowed only once.


You must submit a 300-word HANDWRITTEN essay in English. Essay topic is how your background, education and training has prepared you to be in the field of foreign language education or leadership. NOTE: Typed essays are NOT acceptable. The essay is not used to evaluate work experience, only for the purpose of evaluating the language writing proficiency.
