BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
- 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in the field of general recreation, or one of the appropriate fields of recreation such as outdoor recreation, physical education AND/OR, three years of general work experience, at least one year of which is equivalent to GS-06 or 07 (NF-03), that demonstrated the ability to apply the principles of the specialty areas of recreation.
- Must be able to obtain CPR/First Aid/AED certification.
- A valid Government Owned Vehicle (GOV) operator's permit is required for the performance of duties for this position. Inability to obtain or maintain appropriate GOV licensing may result in termination for lack of qualifications. The incumbent is required to obtain required GOV licenses within 30 days of hire.
- Must be able to successfully complete the National Youth Sports Coaches Association (NYSCA) clinic-training program.
- Must be able to perform prolonged periods of standing, walking, bending, twisting, stooping, occasional heavy lifting and carrying objects weighing 45 pounds (20 kg) with assistance.
- Must be able to accommodate a flexible work schedule to include weekends, holidays and night time (Nights, weekends, and holiday work is required particularly when special and strategic events are scheduled and during periods of staff shortages).
- Must pass a pre-employment and annual health check thereafter, provide evidence of immunization and be free from communicable disease.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
- Knowledge of and experience in carrying out youth sports or other related recreation and sports programs through proper application of the applicable principles, concepts and techniques.
- Ability to develop improvements in and design new activities and programs for youths, new work methods and procedures.
- Experience in successfully leading a large and diverse volunteer group within a broad range of environmental and physical conditions.
- Ability to supervise a diverse workforce which consists of NAF, IHA, and Contracted Labor, recommending personnel actions (i.e., recruitment, awards, disciplinary, etc.), determining training needs, conducting performance review. Ability to serve as a mentor for recreation staff.
- Knowledge of practical business management, property control, cash handling, inventory and retail management, and computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a National Agency Check with Inquiries and State Criminal History Repository Check (Tier 1) with Childcare background checks which are required for positions that involve working with children under 18 years of age.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain Tier 3 (Secret Clearance) in order to complete assigned duties that require access to classified information.
