Associate Director or Director of Toxicology
Position Summary:
Reporting to the VP of Toxicology & Pathology, the Associate Director or Director of Toxicology will work at the forefront of toxicology and safety science, operating in a multidisciplinary environment to progress a diverse pipeline of non-clinical and clinical-stage small molecule therapeutics. You will drive and operationalize toxicology strategy, interact with Contract Research Organizations (CROs) to conduct toxicology studies, interpret data and communicate findings to all levels of the organization.
Note that the position will be filled at the Associate Director or Director level depending on the candidate's experience and the program or business need. The position will be hybrid in San Diego, CA or South San Francisco, CA.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Independently design and implement toxicology strategies to support the non-clinical and clinical development of Erasca’s advancing portfolio
- Identify project safety risks and develop risk mitigation strategies to build mechanistic understanding
- Provide non-clinical expertise for evaluation of in-licensing and out-licensing opportunities
- Author regulatory documents and interact with external health authorities
- Toxicology Operations: Participate in the process of Contract Research Organization (CRO) selection and qualification; Develop Requests-for-Proposals and assist in the review and negotiation of vendor contracts; Monitor toxicology studies and actively engage in the protocol and report writing process
- Contribute to the delivery of departmental strategy and objectives
- Provide progress updates to program teams and company management
- Engage in active problem solving and implement creative ideas balanced with a high regard for the regulatory framework in which Erasca operates
- Perform all duties in keeping with the Company’s core values, policies and all applicable regulations
Required Education and Experience:
- A PhD in Toxicology or a closely related subject is required; Board certification (DABT) preferred
- At least 7 years of relevant project toxicology experience in a biotech or pharmaceutical company with a proven track record of independently delivering toxicology risk assessments in support of drug development
- Strong project leadership skills required to lead the safety assessment contribution on project teams
- Experience bringing small molecule programs through discovery through to IND; late-stage development experience preferred
- A social personality with strong inter-personal skills that fosters trust, cooperative support, diversity and inclusion
- Experience with interacting with and managing study vendors
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Must be able to work independently and thrive in a dynamic work environment
- Strong learning orientation, curiosity, and passion for science and patients
The anticipated salary range for this position is $179,700 to $215,000. The final salary offered to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to the type and length of experience within the job, type and length of experience within the industry, education, etcetera. In addition to base salary, the hired applicant will be eligible to receive an annual bonus and an equity grant at hire and annually in the form of the option to purchase stock in the future for a specified price.
