Job Description
Fragomen is looking for an Associate for its Government Strategies & Compliance practice in our Washington, DC Office.
You will work closely with Partners and Associates in the Firm's Government Strategies & Compliance team to advise U.S. and multinational clients on issues critical to their business and lives. Much of the work will involve representing and defending clients in corporate immigration enforcement defense, immigration litigation, immigration due diligence and white-collar criminal immigration issues. You will also counsel some of the world's largest employers on using their immigration programs to attract talent and advocate for better immigration policies.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Investigate and litigate a wide variety of immigration matters for both individuals and corporate clients.
- Draft complaints, discovery, reports, memos, and litigation and investigation documents.
- Manage intake and handle outreach to large volumes of plaintiffs.
- Manage immigration filings and client outreach communicating regularly with clients and foreign nationals regarding procedural, case processing issues and case strategy.
- Conduct in-depth research on immigration law and policy issues.
- Support clients in immigration program management and compliance.
- Work with professional investigative analysts to review records, investigate wrongdoing, and prepare documents and cases.
- Guide clients through complex immigration strategy challenges and help drive policy solutions.
- Represent employers in immigration compliance audits/investigations.
- Defend employers against charges of immigration-related employment discrimination before administrative law judges.
- Perform immigration due diligence work related to mergers and acquisitions.
- Prepare comments on the regulatory process in response to agency rulemaking and draft testimony for partners testifying during Congressional hearings.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- JD from an accredited law school required
- Member of State Bar (DC preferred)
- Legal experience related to complex litigation and enforcement defense
- Business immigration experience is not required but is a plus
- Experience managing research, investigation and/or litigation projects
- Adept at collaborating with attorneys, paralegals & other legal personnel
- Willingness to question assumptions and propose creative, alternative solutions
- Skilled at researching, collecting, manipulating & analyzing data
- Able to organize resources, establish priorities, and demonstrate attention to detail
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to build effective relationships and networks, internally and externally
