Job Opportunity:

Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance (BHSI) has an exciting opportunity for an Associate Actuary to join our State Affairs team supporting bureau-based and proprietary products across lines including Auto, General Liability, and Property. The State Affairs team supports BHSI's admitted platform holistically to ensure profitable and compliant products are built, filed, implemented, monitored, reported, and maintained.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Development and Maintenance of:

  • Rating algorithms, rates, and rating plans of new and existing admitted products that ensure BHSI is profitable, compliant, and relevant in a rapidly changing competitive landscape
  • All supporting filing exhibits, transmittals, and objection responses that will secure timely approvals countrywide
  • Compliant Excel pricing tools for new/existing products and working with IT to ensure proper system rating and data requirements are created, tested, and implemented
  • Profitability metrics and reporting including but not limited to rate indications and book monitoring dashboards that proactively gauge the health of the business
  • Analyses refining pricing and portfolio segmentation using key risk attributes, including communicating findings to Actuarial and Underwriting partners and assessing impacts on current rating plans and systems
  • Relationship with business partners including Underwriting and Claims, sharing key insights on a regular basis, and understanding their views of the market and legal environment

Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:

  • ACAS or approaching ACAS designation
  • 4+ Years of Experience
  • Rate Filing / Product Development experience desired
  • ISO/AAIS bureau product knowledge desired
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office suite
  • Proficiency in SQL, R/Python, and VBA desired
  • Advanced multi-tasking and prioritization skills to manage rapidly shifting projects effectively
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to proactively work in a team environment as well as independently

The base salary range for this position in New York is from $130,000.00 to $160,000.00, along with annual bonus eligibility; a candidate's salary is determined by their relevant skills and experience.
