Associate Actuary - Pension

The Associate Actuary is responsible for pension plan valuation and consulting, with a major focus on report and study oversight and delivery. This role works closely with peers and directs other actuaries in the completion client projects. The Associate Actuary reviews and takes responsibility for annual pension valuations (for funding and GAAP purposes) and annual filings as needed for pension plan compliance with IRS, DOL and PBGC requirements. This includes communication of actuarial results to the client/pension plan sponsor. Other responsibilities include ensuring an effective control environment, process improvement, and automation.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Lead annual pension valuation projects for the client company.
• Review the calculation of GAAP liabilities and production of FAS ASC 715 reports disclosing results.
• Utilize pension actuarial software to verify the liabilities for pension reports.
• Ensure proper utilization of pension assumptions in all reports and studies performed.
• Consider and contribute to the team efforts in process improvement.
• Partner with connected business groups in support of their efforts to service pension clients.

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:

• BS/BA in Math, Actuarial Science, Economics, or related fields
• ASA and EA or an ASA with commitment to complete the EA and/or FSA designations strongly preferred
• Prior pension consulting experience required (3-4 years minimum preferred).
• Pursuit of actuarial credentials, with company support, preferred if not already an FSA.
• Effective problem solver, detail-oriented, possess communication and collaboration skills, be very responsive, and proactively seek alignment.
• Strong interpersonal and communications skills required, as well as the ability to successfully manage multiple workstreams at the same time.
• Experience with Excel and database software.
• Experience with pension actuarial software is preferred but not required.

Salary Band: 05C

This selected candidate will be expected to work Hybrid in Indianapolis, IN. The candidate will also be expected to physically return to the office in CA, WI, IN or ME as business needs dictate or for team-building and collaboration.
