Role/ Department: Associate Director, Digital Transformation/Internal Audit
The Audit Services Associate Director, Digital Transformation leads an audit team that plays a strategic role in assessing the management of risk associated with business-critical digital transformation initiatives across Northern Trust. The role is a direct report to an Audit Services Managing Director and is responsible for establishing the risk-based audit plan, overseeing the audit team's planning and execution of audits, the performance management process, and recruiting and retention of staff for the audit team.
The Audit Services Associate Director, Digital Transformation will interact and build relationships with Senior management in Northern Trust's Business Units and Technology organization. The candidate will utilize their technical and audit expertise to provide input into and oversight of the execution of the annual audit plan, lead department initiatives, lead and guide staff, and act as a trusted advisor to internal and external stakeholders of Audit Services. Given the nature of the audits performed by the Digital Transformation team, the candidate will be provided with the opportunity to apply and expand their experience in evaluating the management of risks associated with emerging technologies including artificial intelligence, machine learning, natural language processing, big data, and cloud computing. The Associate Director also collaborates with other Audit Services team leaders to provide support to those teams through integrated audits, fostering an environment which encourages participation, teamwork, and communication.
Additional key responsibilities of the role include: • Ensure appropriate audit coverage of current and emerging technologies which underpin digital technology and initiatives• Deliver a risk-based audit plan that validates the effectiveness of Northern Trust's control environment or identifies opportunities for improvement related to compliance with Northern Trust policies, global or local regulations, or industry best practices• Provide technical expertise and resources on planned audit work to drive Digital coverage across the audit universe.• Act as a trusted advisor to the stakeholders of Audit Services through the performance of advisory work intended to proactively identify risk on digital initiatives.• Lead continuous monitoring efforts to stay informed of changes in the business and the industry, identifying current or future risks that should be considered through re-assessment of the audit plan.• Develop and deliver high impact reporting of audit results, including trend analysis and thematic reporting, for executive leadership, the Audit Committee, and global regulators.• Conduct and oversee performance management processes for direct reports, ensuring training and developmental needs are identified and communicated to team members.
Skills/ Qualifications:
The successful candidate will benefit from having:
• A college or university degree, ideally in Computer Sciences, Information Systems, Accounting, or Finance• Advanced audit experience (minimum of ten years) focused in the financial services industry or other global corporations• Professional certification (e.g., CIA, CISA, CPA, APA, ACCA) and/or an MBA is preferred• Specific subject matter expertise in emerging technologies and understanding of the corresponding risks, evolving regulatory landscape, and control frameworks.• Demonstrated experience in designing and delivering high-quality, high-value internal audit deliverables for global organizations or in regulated environments, in accordance with IIA standards.• Ability to define and execute a risk-based audit strategy that also considers the organization's strategic objectives and applicable legal and regulatory requirements• Proficient written and oral communication, negotiation, and listening skills demonstrated through an ability to foster relationships with a variety of stakeholders (including senior business and technology leaders and regulators)• Strong business acumen and understanding of the financial services industry• Experience managing a team of professionals, maximizing their capabilities and enabling their professional growth and development• Ability to adapt and react timely to a dynamic work environment with tight deadlines and varying workloads
