Supernal is at the forefront of creating emerging mobility solutions that will foster the development of human-centered cities. We are designing a completely new electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft tailored to the mobility needs of future cities. What we do:

The Associate Chief Engineer (ACE) will partner closely with the Chief Engineer, other ACEs, Technical Fellows as well as Department Heads to ensure cross-functional optimal aircraft solutions that meet all technical requirements. The ACE is responsible for the technical oversight of key capabilities and performance requirements for eVTOL aircraft, including mission performance; flight critical system design for aircraft propulsion, control, and management; architecture design with optimized redundancy levels; specification of hardware elements and technical support to procurement; vehicle functional and software specification; fault management design; lab testing of flight hardware & software; functional and physical integration of the aircraft; on-aircraft testing; and anomaly resolution among other responsibilities.

This position will be required to work on-site 5 days a week.

What you can do:
  • Deliver innovative eVTOL vehicle meeting configuration requirements and in alignment with business goals and go to market in 2028
  • Lead aircraft-level functional and physical architecture and integration, being responsible for airframe, propulsion, energy storage, flight controls and avionics, flight technologies, test & evaluation, and systems engineering functions
  • Make key vehicle configuration recommendations in partnership with the Chief Engineer
  • Provide overall technical leadership to the engineering team through development, flight test, and certification with a “hands-on” approach and day-to-day engagement with staff and PMO team
  • Drive solutions for complex technical challenges across engineering teams
  • Support the Chief Engineer in meeting requirements, goals, and timelines
  • Partner with other ACEs, Tech Fellows, and Heads to define key capabilities and performance requirements for all teams
  • Recommend system implementation and verification approach to meet operational concepts
  • Lead engineering reviews
  • Develop and review requirements, system architectures, and interfaces
  • Define design and technology maturity constraints of the system and identify research and development needs
  • Ensure technical compliance with company and industry policies and regulations
  • Navigate ambiguity and stay flexible as our innovative organization grows and evolves
  • Promote a positive safety culture consistent with the Supernal Safety Office
  • May require up to 25% of domestic and international travel
  • Other duties as assigned
What you can contribute:
  • Bachelor's degree in Aerospace/Aeronautical, Mechanical, Systems, Electrical Engineering, or other related fields required; Master’s degree preferred
  • A minimum of twenty (20) years of experience in aerospace engineering (an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered)
  • Experience as a Chief Engineer with responsibility for designing and producing new vehicles
  • Experience in creating and testing innovative aircraft, ensuring their safety and certification.
  • Ability to approach new challenges, fast-paced environments, and ambiguous situations with confidence and determination in problem-solving
  • Having the capability to achieve desired outcomes and accomplish assigned duties
  • Must have the ability to prioritize and accomplish work within time constraints independently
  • Proven technical leader in developing and bringing to market human-centered air vehicles, building and leading new engineering teams, aligning with business applications, and executing in ambiguous, innovative technical organizations
  • Ability to establish relationships quickly and effectively with internal and external leaders and use these relationships to ensure success.
  • Ability to create action plans, assign resources, and supervise activities to ensure project deliverables are met
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Experience leading teams through effective stage-gates to deliver technical solutions for unchartered challenges
  • Experience with all facets of product design and certification, including conceptual design, preliminary design, detail design, prototype fabrication and assembly, bench test of complex systems, flight test, certification, entry into service, and sustainment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proactive delivery of communication and follow up
  • Experience in product development, from concept through prototyping to full-rate production
  • Experience in 14 CFR Parts 23, 25, 27 and/or 29

Base pay offered may vary depending on skills, experience, job-related knowledge and location. This position is also eligible for a bonus as part of total compensation.

The pay range for this position is:
$254,800—$407,680 USD
