Weber Shandwick’s Crisis & Issues Management Practice helps leading organizations manage organizations manage breaking issues and events affecting reputation. We work with our clients to help them develop the internal culture and infrastructure needed to anticipate, prepare for, and navigate issues effectively.
As a Senior Associate, you will have the unique opportunity to drive communications around these challenging and exciting projects. Curiosity, a passion for creating positive change, and a pulse on current affairs are requisites for this position. The ideal candidate will possess excellent writing skills and the ability to perform in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment. You will be intimately familiar with current events and news trends and be able to translate that knowledge into actionable insights for clients. This extends to social and digital communications: you must possess true analytical fluency in this area. A strong academic record is a must, and while experience in issues management is a bonus, candidates of all backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
 What You Will Be Doing
- Â Prepare strong initial drafts of client-facing communication materials and interface directly with clients where appropriate
- Â Lead small teams to conduct pressing research on a wide range of issues, review and prepare executive summaries and/or analyses detailing clear and concise findings, distill highly complex and large amounts of information into strategic and actionable recommendations
- Support senior leadership and mid-level team members on issues preparedness, brand safety and risk mitigation strategies
- Support on live crisis situations, including conversation analysis and reporting, communications development, and risk analysis, which may require support outside of typical business hours
- Support new business initiatives through the development of pitch materials
- Actively participate in and contribute to discussions surrounding clients’ strategies
- Conduct media outreach where needed
- Review and provide feedback to other junior team members’ work
- Collaborate closely with other junior team members to ensure that assignments are appropriately staffed and completed in a timely manner
- Â Support accounts with project and financial account management
- Participate in new business development activities.
What We Are Looking For Â
- Crisis communications, issues management, and/or public affairs experienceÂ
- Strong understanding of social analytics Â
- Ability to provide strategic and actionable recommendations based on researchÂ
- Highly effective oral and written communication skills -Basic familiarity with corporate financialsÂ
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and manage deadlines in a consistent manner
- Meticulous attention to detail -Resourceful, effective problem solver -Comfortable asking for assistance from and providing direction to team members
- Ability to take ownership, manage and see projects through from start to finish -Proactive self-starter and a quick learner
- Strong work ethic
- Sharp curiosity and an analytical mind Â
Basic QualificationsÂ
- 1-2 years of professional experience: in an agency/strategic consulting firm, political campaign or organization, law or similar settingÂ
- BA or BS, preferably in Political Science, history, journalism, International Relations or similar fields -Knowledge of basic PR skills and client service -Fluent in Microsoft Suite (e.g., Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and proficiency in research, media and social monitoring platforms (e.g., Brandwatch, Sysomos, Cision, Critical Mention, Lexis-Nexis)Â
NYC Salary range: $52,000 – $60,000
Where an employee or prospective employee is paid within this range will depend on, among other factors, actual ranges for current/former employees in the subject position; market considerations; budgetary considerations; tenure and standing with the company (applicable to current employees); as well as the employee’s/applicant’s background, pertinent experience, and qualifications.
