Associate Counsel 

Position: Financial Technology Partners is seeking an Associate Counsel to work on its legal team to provide support on a wide variety of legal issues. This position will work directly with the General Counsel to support FT Partners across functions, teams, and issues.  The ideal candidate will have demonstrated interest and experience in employment law but is someone who has a desire to broaden their legal skill set to become a well-rounded in-house lawyer.

FT is operating in a hybrid work from home model, three days in the office and two days from home. On the days that you are in the office, free lunch is provided!

Essential Functions: 

  • Support the General Counsel on a wide variety of legal matters
  • Under guidance of senior legal team, provide day to day legal support and counseling to investment banking teams, People Operations, Finance, and other internal clients
  • Improve internal legal, compliance, and risk management processes
  • Advise on employment issues including HR practices, performance management, terminations, recruiting, hiring, and compensation and benefits
  • Draft, review, and revise employment related agreements and templates
  • Review and negotiate a variety of investment agreements
  • Review and negotiate a variety of commercial agreements, including NDAs, software licensing and SaaS agreements, service agreements, consulting agreements, technology licenses, and other operational agreements
  • Assist in the development of programs, corporate policies, procedures and programs, as well as legal templates and training

Basic Qualifications: 

  • 2+ years of relevant legal experience, preferably at a major national law firm
  • Admitted to the bar in good standing in New York or California, or eligible for registered in house counsel
  • Strong work ethic and flexibility to thrive in a fast-paced environment
  • A practical problem-solver; calm under fire with a positive attitude and a sense of humor
  • Confident, proactive, and can learn on the job
  • Exceptional analytical ability and advocacy skills
  • Excellent written, oral communication, and negotiation skills
  • U.S. work authorization required. FT Partners will not sponsor applicants for work visas at application or in the future. 
  • Must have received or be willing to receive the COVID-19 vaccination by date of hire to be considered.

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Relevant experience in employment law
  • Strong quantitative skills and ability to work with numbers
  • Strong people skills with proven ability to build strong working relationships with internal clients at all levels of management and work on cross-functional teams on complex deals
