The Systems Engineering Division (SED) provides unmatched experience in systems engineering to the U.S. government and to numerous public and private agencies, universities, nonprofit organizations, consortia, and commercial companies involved in the advanced application of space technology. From systems architecture development to system analysis and optimization, astrodynamics, orbital debris, navigation, failure analysis, mission assurance, cost and schedule assessment, and economic market analysis, SED exploits an incredibly broad array of engineering and business disciplines against a diverse and dynamic portfolio of programs and national challenges.
Within SED, the Acquisition Risk and Reliability Engineering Department's customers range from national security space (SF, NRO, etc.) to civil (NASA, FAA, etc.) to commercial. ARRED supports its customers through rigorous application of risk and reliability practices and principles to ensure mission success for spacecraft, launch systems, and their associated ground systems. ARRED is also responsible for a set of corporately developed mission assurance tools that are leveraged by a wide array of programs to manage their mission assurance activities.
What You'll Be Doing
  • The Associate Director will manage teams spanning various disciplines, experience levels, and organizational boundaries.
  • Primary functions include:
    • Provide leadership, planning, and direction of technical office staff and operations.
    • Assign resources, determines staffing needs, and coordinates activities and operations among subordinate units.
    • Communicate and coordinate activities with counterpart organizations, management, and customers across the corporation.
    • Contribute to department strategy, technical vision, and direction.
    • Work with the Director to recruit, hire, mentor, and lead a group of technical experts to provide the corporation with world-class risk, reliability and mission assurance capabilities.
    • Develop and maintain relationships with program offices
  • Duties, responsibilities and activities may change, or new ones may be assigned as needed

What You Need to be Successful
Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelors degree from an accredited program in aerospace, mechanical, electrical, reliability, systems engineering, operations research or related field.
  • Previous experience managing technical staff
  • Demonstrated risk, reliability, or mission assurance skills in aerospace applications
  • Demonstrated initiative and excellent leadership skills, with proven ability to build and manage effective technical teams
  • Proven ability to establish and maintain effective interpersonal and working relationships with various levels of corporate staff, peers, management, program offices, customers, and contractors
  • This position requires a current and active TS/SCI security clearance, which is issued by the US government. U.S citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance

How You Can Stand Out
It would be impressive if you have one or more of these:
  • An advanced degree from an accredited program in aerospace, mechanical, electrical, reliability, systems engineering, operations research or related field(s) (pursuing or conferred within last 12 months)
  • 12 or more years of experience in an engineering discipline
  • Deep familiarity with DoD and IC acquisition and engineering practices
  • Demonstrated ability to apply risk practices at different organizational levels
  • Demonstrated ability to efficiently deliver analysis and insights in unstructured settings
  • Experience with model-based systems engineering tools and digital engineering environments
  • Experience with machine learning/artificial intelligence
