Position Description:
The Associate Director of Communications will report to the Senior Director of Communications within the Immunology Business Unit (ImBu) Corporate Affairs (BUCA). The Associate Director of Communications will work with U.S. and global business colleagues in ImBU as well as with cross-functional colleagues within the Immunology BUCA, such as those supporting patient advocacy and environmental shaping, as well as those in Corporate Communications, Executive Communications, Corporate Digital and Social Media, Employee Communications, Investor Relations and Global Corporate Affairs. The candidate must approach the work with a Team Lilly mindset - in other words, be flexible and find ways to support the greater good.
Responsibilities:
The candidate selected as the Associate Director of Communications, Corporate Affairs, will support products and programs in the Immunology business unit. The Associate Director of Communications will be an integral part of a cross-functional launch team where communications will play a defining role in telling Immunology's story and helping to launch life-changing treatments for multiple autoimmune diseases. Responsibilities will include traditional and non-traditional communications, including consumer-focused programs as well as data and regulatory milestone communications.

Responsibilities will include traditional and non-traditional communications, including consumer-focused programs as well as data and regulatory milestone communications.
Specific responsibilities include:
- Manage day-to-day public relations activities for Immunology products (which treat multiple autoimmune diseases), including support of data and regulatory milestones as well as branded product communications campaigns
- Support immunology platform communication efforts to help position Lilly as leader in Immunology through compelling storytelling and strategic communications campaigns
- Partner on employee engagement and communications efforts for the Immunology business unit, including videos, leadership messages and townhalls
- Provide issues management and strategic guidance
General responsibilities include:
- Develop, write and edit communications for media such as press releases, internal Q&As, videos and fact sheets
- Anticipate, prioritize, and prepare to manage opportunities and potential negative issues in the media
- Provide media training, communications counsel and coaching internal business partners
- Conduct and/or facilitate interviews with local, national, and international media outlets
- Create digital and social media campaigns, implementing organic and paid content through various channels
- Manage day-to-day work with the agency of record for public relations
- Partner with communications contacts in our global affiliates
- Develop and edit communications for internal use (presentations, emails, speeches, etc.)
- Assist with other communications projects as assigned
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field
- Five years of communications experience (journalism, public relations, other communications roles, etc.)
- Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to be employed in the United States. Lilly does not anticipate providing sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H-1B or TN status) for this employment position
Additional Skills/Preferences:
- Strong understanding of traditional and non-traditional communications (including digital, social)
- Enthusiasm to explore and implement new innovative ways of communicating.
- Proven successful experience in the development and execution of strategic and creative communications plans, leveraging multiple tactics from earned to paid
- Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to convey complexity in a simple yet compelling fashion.
- Proficient in media relations, including interacting with A-list media and serving as a spokesperson
- Skillful in executive communications/speechwriting
- Adept at working with cross-functional teams (leveraging collaboration and consensus building) to understand the business need and to use communication effectively to help drive the business forward
- Able to juggle many projects at once in a fast-paced environment with very tight deadlines
