Associate Director, Corporate Digital/Social Media Communications Strategy

Summary of Position

Lilly is seeking a motivated team player who shares our passion to foster meaningful connections with patients, their loved ones, health care providers, policymakers and the interested public, and ultimately help deliver on our company purpose to make life better for people around the world.

The Associate Director, Corporate Digital/Social Media Communications Strategy will create and support communications strategies using Lilly's corporate digital channels to meet the objectives of the global communications team, while ensuring operational compliance with Lilly quality systems and all governing processes and procedures.

This position plays a leading role in creating and supporting paid media campaign strategies; works with our media buying agency for all ad buys, and provides timely communication of channel metrics, campaign evaluation, and competitive activity.

This role also manages our external agency responsible for social care and community management across all corporate channels, which includes providing guidance, drafting and logging appropriate responses and approving responses to in-bound comments.

The Associate Director, Corporate Digital/Social Media Communications Strategy is also an active contributor to the communications team's editorial content management process and calendar, and consults with key business partners on paid digital content strategies to ensure they meet overall company objectives, brand guidelines and channel scope requirements.

The role contributes to the success of the organization by staying on top of new and emerging technologies and trends, while serving as a resource to the team and other business partners across the company who have digital responsibilities.

Key Objectives/Deliverables
  • Serve as channel expert for Lilly's corporate social media channels, ensuring compliance with Lilly policies and processes.
  • Develop deep understanding of Lilly's social media policies and procedures.
  • Participate on cross-functional teams that develop and execute strategic and creative communications plans, including paid and organic social media posts.
  • Set goals, develop KPIs and a reporting cadence to measure organic post engagement and paid campaign results against original objectives.
  • Recommend and manage paid social media budgets needed to accomplish campaign goals.
  • Provide insights into social media trends to identify opportunities to continuously improve content and engagement results.
  • Manage relationships with social content management system, digital ad buying agency, community management agency and social media platform advertising reps.
  • Collaborate closely with the Creative and Content teams, as well as the Global Enterprise and Reputation teams, subject matter experts and project managers to deliver work that aligns to Lilly's objectives and drives results.
  • Share best practices with colleagues who conduct digital engagement on Lilly's corporate social media channels, including regular communication with business partners and their external agencies to ensure digital strategies are appropriate and consistent.
  • Stay on top of new and emerging technologies and trends.
  • Provide backup support for Lilly.com website content updates and page development, if needed.


Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, marketing communications, public relations or related field.
  • Minimum of 6 years in digital communications and/or operations for an agency and/or in-house experience.
  • Experience running paid digital campaigns for a business or organization.
  • Experience in developing outstanding content geared for specific social media channels.
  • Previous experience working with social listening and engagement platforms, such as NetBase and Khoros.
  • Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to be employed in the United States. Lilly does not anticipate providing sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H-1B or TN status) for this employment position

  • Keen eye for proofreading, grammar and style.
  • Experience working globally and externally preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply practical or technical knowledge where no direction is given.
  • Strong organization and project management skills.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously, meet deadlines and deal with rapidly changing priorities and timelines.
  • Knowledge and understanding of key marketplace factors for pharmaceuticals, as well as critical business issues and drivers.
  • Meticulous attention to detail.
  • Ability to think quickly, analytically to accommodate a dynamic communications environment.
  • Understanding of and experience with website content management systems and UX design principles.
  • Works well under pressure, responds to feedback well and keeps a positive attitude.


Additional Information
  • The position reports to the Senior Director, Channels.
  • Some international and domestic travel expected if conditions and business need arise.
  • Position location of Indianapolis strongly preferred
