Job Description

The Associate Director, Market Research and Competitive Intelligence (CI) is a strategic thought partner and analytical expert who provides critical contributions to the brand team, the life-cycle planning team, and the forecasting team and others. The Associate Director will also help drive senior leadership decisions based on the market research and competitive intelligence. The Associate Director’s main role will be to lead and manage Market Research and CI engagements, to support Seladelpar’s pre-launch and post-launch activities. This role will be responsible for leading HCP, Patient and Market Access Market Research projects, in order to inform dynamic business decisions and objectives. The position will construct and implement competitive intelligence plans in coordination with internal and external partners to deliver critical insights, anticipated market movements, and inform recommendations and plans that best position CymaBay in a competitive market environment. This individual will play a critical role in developing insights for Seladelpar based on Market Research and CI, and translating those into insights informing the commercial strategy and help integrate Market Research and CI into the organization.
This is a hybrid position that requires 3 days in the office (Tue, Wed, Thu) and two days working remotely (Mon, Fri).


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Market Research (50%)
  • Execute primary market research projects related to HCP, Patient and Payers, understanding the needs of the business stakeholders and contributing to building the insight generation plan required to meet those needs.
  • Manage external vendors or internal stakeholders as required.
  • Support key activities including QBRs, Brand Planning, Budgeting and business case support as needed. Work with the Forecasting and Analytics resources to develop and align the KPI’s.
  • Translate primary market research findings into actionable insights and be able to influence the team's decision making accordingly (developing and maintaining the situational analysis document). Present findings and insights to key stakeholders and senior leadership.
  • Build capabilities by researching and implementing new research methodologies, internal and external standards, etc.
  • Develop market research plans and prioritize market research studies based on identified knowledge gaps, market research needs, and budget requirements
  • Help provide necessary documentation needs to ensure easy tracking of historical market research studies
  • Ensure studies are market research studies are conducted in a compliant manner


Competitive Intelligence (50%)

  • Strategic thought partner and subject matter expert who will serve as the go-to resource for competitive market strategy
  • Develops and maintains competitive environment landscapes and other needed assessments (threat assessments, benchmarking, etc.)
  • Manages and leads necessary Competitive Workshops with Senior Leadership
  • Leads competitive intelligence planning for key congresses with input from cross-functional partners. Drives team preparedness - develops pre-conference materials, aligns and delivers on-site activities, develops and disseminates post-congress report.
  • Provides thought leadership to teams, with expert opinion on the impact of market and competitor events as risks and opportunities to their near and long-range planning
  • Consistently and effectively communicates with key stakeholders to ensure teams are well informed by presenting landscape updates and distributing timely alerts on key external events (i.e. clinical data releases, product approvals) while highlighting implications
  • Facilitates cross-functional and leadership discussions, debriefs and simulations of competitive scenarios that embed insights into the development plans and commercial activities for Seladelpar
  • Aligns key stakeholders on competitor assumptions across functions and communicates them clearly including where/why they may differ
  • Provides insights into the potential impact of market competitors for forecast models and strategic plans, including associated risks and opportunities, and alternate scenarios.
  • Understanding of key intelligence needs and identifying appropriate resources to inform information gaps
  • Models and enforces CI research within appropriate code of conduct, compliance and ethical business practices.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • A minimum of 8+ years of relevant commercial analytical, Market Research and Competitive Intelligence experience within the biotechnology/pharmaceutical industry
  • Experience in HCP, Patient and Payer market research and competitive intelligence, preferably with experience supporting a launch and growing products
  • Highly skilled in to work collaboratively in team-based environment and gain alignment across an organization
  • Knowledge and experience working within the industry and experience with different market research methodologies and approaches
  • Strong oral, written and presentation skills with ability to present difficult and complex data sets
  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
  • Daily demonstrates a positive, 'can do' attitude and willingness to take a “hands on” approach in a dynamic and fast paced environment
  • Ability to multi-task and shift priorities quickly while working under tight deadlines.
  • Skilled in developing collaborative internal and external relationships.


EDUCATION, CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

  • Education: Bachelor of Art or Science in Health Sciences or related discipline/Business Administration; PhD or Masters preferred

  • Analytical expertise - Demonstrated ability of effectively directing and leveraging market research and developing, tracking, and acting on performance metrics and market insights

  • Management ability - ability to set priorities and meet specific deadlines in a changing environment
  • Communication - ability to communicate ideas and data both verbally and written, in a persuasive, organized and appropriate manner, and preparing presentations for stakeholders
  • Project management - ability to meet tight deadlines in an environment of competing and changing priorities. Must have strong task management skills to include planning, prioritization, objective setting, and meeting management and plan execution
  • Innovative - maintains awareness of evolving analytical techniques, methodologies and vendors to bring innovative approaches into the organization that drives higher quality results; formulates strategies and approaches that may fall outside historical norms
  • Teamwork - ability to work effectively in and foster a team environment; consultative with a willingness to learn, teach and grow.
  • Travel: Ability to travel up to 25%

 

The anticipated annual salary range for candidates who will work in Newark, California is $180-215K. The final salary offered to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to the type and length of experience within the job, type and length of experience within the industry, education, etc. CymaBay is a multi-state employer, and this salary range may not reflect positions that work in other states.
