We foster an inclusive culture and are looking for diverse, talented people to join Alcon and we are looking to hire an Associate Director-Modeling and Simulation to join our Modeling and Simulation Team in Lake Forest, CA. You will be responsible for championing Modeling and Simulation (M&S) driven research and development, specifically in the area of Electromagnetic Compatibility within the organization to achieve pipeline objectives for R&D Surgical Instrumentation technology platform.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Drive innovation and ensure high quality decision making through effective application of Modeling and Simulation for Alcon R&D with quantitative analysis and scientific-based analytical methods with an emphasis of frontloading product knowledge within the development lifecycle and addressing technical risks.
  • Provide functional leadership of EMC/EMI modeling and simulation activities in support of all projects from Ideation, Exploratory and Confirmatory Development through sustaining.
  • Manage and lead EMC/EMI M&S team activities and associates. Responsible for coaching and developing associates while ensuring best practices and procedures are aligned with state of the art best known methods in the industry.
  • Supervise EMC/EMI modeling and simulation team and activities while developing the organization's capabilities. Proactively collaborate with project teams on integrating simulation-based strategies within project plans and developing new capabilities to target unmet needs.
  • Serve as SME for the organization.
  • Develop network of resource partners and leverage experts appropriately to continually improve influence of M&S on Alcon projects and scale bandwidth as appropriate.
  • Collaborate with and influence project leaders in simulation driven product development with accountability for outcome.
  • Establishes strategy and direction for EMC/EMI modeling and simulation team in alignment with R&D's strategic plans.
  • Develop and manage interpersonal relationships to influence decisions of project leaders, technical leads and EMC/EMI analysts along with external resources.
  • Responsible for successful and innovative problem solving in resolution of the most challenging issues with a customer driven focus; champion Alcon values and behaviors within the M&S team and serve as a service provider role model.
  • Ensure efficient EMC/EMI M&S resource allocation and management to support all R&D approved projects. Identify need to recruit talent and work within the organizational leadership to define role and provide justification. Leverage outsourcing and offshoring as appropriate to meet high demand cycles.

Key Requirements/Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree or Equivalent years of directly related experience (or high school +15 yrs; Assoc.+11 yrs; M.S.+4 yrs; PhD+3 yrs)
  • The ability to fluently read, write, understand, and communicate in English
  • 7 Years of Relevant Experience
  • 5 Years of Demonstrated Leadership
  • Work hours: M-F Standard
  • Travel Requirements: 5-10%

Preferred Requirements

  • Electrical engineer (M.S.+15 yrs; PhD+10 yrs)
  • 7 Years of relevant experience, 5 Years of demonstrated management experience leading teams with direct reports
  • Demonstrated expertise in EMC/EMI Simulation methods and applications to products
  • Expert user of EMC/EMI simulation tools including Ansys HFSS, SIWAVE, Altair FEKO or similar tools
