This position will lead the payroll team for Illumina's shared service center for the Americas region. The Associate Director will be responsible for timely and accurate payroll administration for employees in North and South America, payroll policy development and implementation, building and maintaining collaborative working relationships with cross functional internal business partners, monthly accounting close for payroll related activities, and managing payroll related vendor relationships.
Reporting to the Sr Director, Accounting, this position requires a professional with experience working within a multi-national company dealing with complex payroll issues and transactions. The successful candidate will be able to work and communicate effectively in a team environment interacting with all levels of our organization, international team members, and external auditors.

Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee all activities of the payroll process to ensure timely and accurate payroll for all employees in Illumina's Americas region (US, Canada, and South America)
- Responsible for collating and prioritizing global payroll initiatives
- Meet all government reporting requirements for payroll taxes, withholding and employer contributions; Includes preparation of W-2's and other local payroll reporting requirements
- Responsible for educating employees on policies and procedures for all areas of the payroll process
- Responsible for overall leadership of the payroll team, including hiring, developing, and evaluating personnel
- Responsible for managing supplier relationships
- Responsible for negotiating contracts for payroll services
- Fosters global collaboration between HR, Global Mobility, Commissions, Legal, GL, Compensation
- In partnership with HR, coordinate 401(k), Workers' Compensation, and Deferred Compensation plans and administer all payroll related components
- Responsible for all aspects of operational and process controls around payroll
- Responsible for maintaining Sarbanes-Oxley internal control narratives and testing documentation for areas of responsibilities
- Manage projects related to payroll process improvements in order to create operational efficiencies
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree required. Field of study in Accounting, Finance or related field preferred
- 15+ years of high-growth corporate payroll experience
- 7+ years of supervisory experience, knowledge, and skills typically acquired through previous positions in fast-paced corporate environments
- Thorough knowledge of US payroll tax laws for a multistate employer
- Thorough understanding of the payroll aspects of stock based compensation, 401(k) plans, and deferred compensation plans
- Experience with international payroll administration in Canada and South America
- Experience with ADP and Workday preferred but not essential
- Excellent communication skills and an attention to detail required
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite required
