Job Description
Diversified Communications is looking for a talented Associate Editor to add to our growing team! The Associate Editor, Special Projects is responsible for assisting with production of long-term projects to support the goals and objectives for SeafoodSource.com. The Associate Editor, Special Projects will work closely with the Editorial Project Manager in creating content for in-depth reports, show guides, sponsored content, and other long-term projects. Responsibilities also include creating and managing multimedia projects and assets (including graphics, audio, and video). The Associate Editor, Special Projects will also collaborate with the Executive Editor to contribute relevant feature articles pertaining to the industry on an ad-hoc basis.
Essential Functions:
- Contribute to special projects, including e-books, show guides, and larger special reports, as assigned by the Editorial Project Manager.
- Take a lead role in creation and management of multimedia projects, including but not limited to podcasts, video, and designed infographics.
- Ability to shoot photo and video, as well as edit photo, audio, and video.
- Contribute news articles and other content in deadline as needed for SeafoodSource.com and the SeafoodSource e-newsletter, while upholding the highest journalism standards, using Associated Press style, and implementing editorial SEO best practices.
- Collaborate with editorial and marketing staff on SeafoodSource's social media accounts, with an eye to building and maintaining an online audience and driving traffic to SeafoodSource.com.
- Attend industry events, with some travel required.
- Develop expertise in the sector through independent research, networking, and staying abreast of industry news.
- Ability to work independently and, occasionally, remotely.
Skills & Qualifications:
Knowledge: Bachelor's degree required in journalism, English, communications, or a similarly relevant field of study. Experience writing and shooting multimedia for a journalistic enterprise, and particularly for a B2B publication, is highly preferred.
Skills: Must be comfortable writing and editing using Associated Press style, as well as creating multimedia content. Familiarity using web-based content management systems and with promoting content across social media platforms preferred. Experience with PC applications, the Microsoft Office suite, Photoshop, iMovie or other equivalent video-editing software, preferred. Experience using data and web analytics to understand the behaviour and preferences of readership a plus.
Abilities: Must be eager to work as a full-time reporter covering a dynamic and global industry, focusing on feature and multimedia content as well as long-term projects. Must be highly organized and deadline driven, with the ability to handle multiple tasks at once with several deadlines and project timelines. A willingness to network and build contacts within the industry is vital to succeeding in this position. Ability to collaborate with a small but dedicated team is absolutely necessary.
