Associate Engineer, MSAT

Position Overview  

The Umoja Biopharma MSAT team is seeking a driven Associate Engineer to support our Lentiviral Vector (LVV) manufacturing process scale up and establishment.  The successful candidate will have previous GLP (Good Laboratory Practice) lab experience including solution preparation, electronic lab notebook documentation, and sample management. This position will work closely with other functions to develop LVV processes and successfully transfer established processes to GMP Manufacturing.

This position will be based first in Louisville, CO, at our new state-of-the-art lab and manufacturing facility – the CLIMB.

CORE ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Specific responsibilities include:

• Assist with experimental design, execution, and analysis to support the development of a gene therapy product
• Collaborate with team members to co-develop tech transfer processes as well as participate in tech transfer of processes
• Perform routine laboratory work (e.g., cell passaging, buffer preparation, sample creation and labeling, waste removal, data review) to support MSAT lab operations, and other labs as needed
• Maintain clear records of experimental work using an electronic notebook system that adheres to company guidelines
• Communicate data in cross-functional meetings

The successful candidate will have:

• 2 years of experience in process development or biopharmaceutical manufacturing, preferably in gene therapy or a related field. Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered. 
• Hands-on experience with one or more of following techniques: Cell passaging, buffer preparation

Preferred Qualifications:

• A B.S in Biology, Bioengineering, Chemical Engineering, Biotechnology or related discipline.
• Excellent communication skills with the proven ability to build open and collaborative relationships and work effectively as a member of a multidisciplinary team
• Previous lab experience is required
• Experience with viral vectors (e.g., AAV, LVV) is a plus
• Experience with process equipment (Bioreactors, AKTA, peristaltic pumps, pH probes, conductivity meters) is a plus.
• Self-motivation, organization, effective communication, and presentation skills
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, meet deadlines, and prioritize work on multiple projects

Physical Requirements:  

• 100% compliance with personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements in laboratory environments, including gloves, protective clothing, and eye safety glasses.
• Perform physical tasks required for the role, including standing, walking, bending, kneeling, sitting, working your hands in a biosafety cabinet, and occasionally moving materials up to 50 pounds.
• Project-oriented work in this role will require regular on-site presence to complete essential job-related functions for analytical development and execution.

Salary Range: $31.50 - $38.25/hour dependent on experience. This is a non-exempt role.
