Associate Engineer, Reliability - Data

As a Data Reliability Engineer on the Enterprise Data Solutions team you will be responsible for keeping our data delivery platforms running smoothly and our data trustworthy and reliable. This person will apply solid engineering principles toward data processing problems. This role plays a key part in delivering clean, timely and reliable data to the business, the core mission of the Enterprise Data Solutions team.

Responsibilities

• Be on support rotation and respond to incidents related to the JD/Finishline Data platform (leveraging Google Cloud, Streamsets, DBT, Kafka and Looker)
• Implement mitigations to detect, reduce and prevent incidents
• Manage infrastructure as code using Terraform, Kubernetes and other tools
• Setup observability to enable monitoring, anomaly-detection, alerting and for teams to self-service diagnose issues
• Create runbooks and automate runbook solutions to eliminate toil
• Automate all aspects of the application and infrastructure delivery lifecycle (CI/CD)
• Provide self-service capabilities to business partners to leverage the platform and platforms features
• Design and build platform capabilities that allow JD/Finishline to deliver highly available and reliable data assets
• Plan for ongoing maintenance and enhancements to the platform

Technical Skills

• Strong skills with Linux and Linux Administration, Windows administration nice to have
• Experience or interest in analytics and data applications
• Ability to automate tasks using scripting languages such as Bash, Python, Go, NodeJS, Powershell
• Infrastructure as code tools such as Terraform, Ansible, and Packer
• Container technology (e.g. Docker) and Kubernetes container orchestration
• Observability tools for metrics, logging, and tracing such as Prometheus, Grafana, Elastic Stack, Splunk, OpenTracing, and Jaeger
• Pipeline build and automation tools such as Gradle, GitHub, npm, Jenkins, Helm, Spinnaker
• Storage management, backup and recovery, and availability strategies
• Business continuity, disaster recovery, and high availability strategies

Note: It is not expected that an SRE be an expert in all of these areas but to be strong in a few areas and have an interest in the others.
