Associate General Counsel

Our Legal Team plays an integral role in these efforts, overseeing legal and risk mitigation efforts across the entire company.

We are looking for an Associate General Counsel (AGC) to join our growing team. Reporting directly to the General Counsel, you’ll serve as a trusted advisor to our leadership team and key internal stakeholders. You’ll provide legal counsel to help Odeko grow strategically and thoughtfully in all facets of its business, including through acquisitions, financing, strategic partnerships, and organic growth. You’ll also serve as a critical and collaborative partner to the business by providing practical legal advice that will inform strategic and operational business decisions.

How you’ll make an impact:

• Assist the General Counsel in operating all aspects of the legal function, from budget management to headcount planning to outside counsel and vendor management
• Advise on a range of transactional matters, including acquisitions, investments and strategic partnerships, from inception through integration and implementation
• Collaborate with the company's product and business teams from the initial stages of product development and beyond to identify potential legal risks and provide practical advice on risk mitigation
• Help senior leaders and other internal stakeholders navigate complex legal issues across all aspects of the business
• Create, improve and maintain legal forms, policies and processes to standardize and streamline legal support on certain repeatable processes (e.g., NDAs, commercial contracts, legal holds) – including the utilization of technology and vendors where appropriate
• Play an active role in cross-functional efforts to grow the business and implement strategic initiatives

About you: 

• J.D. from an ABA accredited law school
• Membership in good standing in at least one state bar (CA or NY preferred)
• 7+ years of relevant legal experience (willing to consider exceptional candidates with fewer years)
• A mix of law firm and in-house experience preferred
• High-growth startup and public company experience helpful
• Prior experience in general transactional or corporate matters required; additional experience in product counseling, privacy, and/or intellectual property matters helpful
• Proven ability to learn on the job and adapt to constantly changing priorities
• Ability to work and communicate effectively with product, engineering and tech teams
• Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills
• Eagerness to grow professionally
