BillionToOne's first product, UNITY, is the first and only non-invasive prenatal test that can directly screen an unborn baby and assess its risk for common and severe recessive gene disorders and chromosomal abnormalities, as well as fetal sex and fetal antigens, from a single tube of blood from the pregnant mother without paternal testing.

In 2023, BillionToOne launched two liquid biopsy products that will markedly improve oncology treatment and care. With Northstar Select™, clinicians will be able to select cancer therapies that will be most effective to each patient based on their individual genetic makeup. Northstar Response™ will enable clinicians to monitor a patient’s early response to these cancer therapies, by measuring minute changes in their ctDNA, which can reduce ineffective treatments and unwanted toxicity, lower costs, and substantially improve clinical outcomes.

BillionToOne is looking to hire an Associate General Counsel, its second attorney, for its growing Legal & Compliance team to advise on Commercial & Compliance issues. This role will have a significant impact on developing and implementing legal and compliance policies, practices, and systems. You will partner and collaborate with members of our Finance, Sales, Market Access, Reimbursement, R&D, Supply Chain, & HR teams. This role reports to our General Counsel-Chief Compliance Officer & Secretary and can be located onsite, hybrid, or fully remote (with occasional travel).

Responsibilities:

• Oversee company contracts and process, including drafting, negotiating, reviewing, interpreting, and managing strategic, high-value contracts 
• Launch and implement internal standardized contract process, policies and workflow, supported by a robust contract management system; maintain templates and standardize responses and workflow 
• Develop compliance policies and procedures, soliciting feedback from internal stakeholders, preparing and drafting policies/SOPs and overseeing implementation and training
• Support development of an effective compliance and privacy program designed to meet applicable standards and requirements
• Provide risk mitigation, legal advice and compliance guidance to Product, Marketing, Market Access and Reimbursement teams and other functions as needed
• Support the development of our international business and distributor network
• Partner with General Counsel to develop and build legal and compliance infrastructure for lab services/life science organization

Requirements:

• JD from top law school and licensed to practice law in one or more US jurisdictions
• 7+ years of experience with in-house legal department or major law firm; minimum of 4 years in-house legal experience with molecular diagnostics/genetics company or CLIA lab; if limited direct diagnostics/genetics industry experience, must have experience at medical device, pharma, or commercial health insurance provider
• Extensive experience independently drafting, negotiating, reviewing, and managing wide variety of contract types including service, supply, consulting, confidentiality, distributor, and employment agreements (familiarity with commercial health insurance and payor reimbursement contracts desired)
• Experience implementing compliance policies, procedures, and delivering employee training
• Experience advising on domestic and global privacy matters and programs
• Ability to be highly resourceful, adaptable, and nimble in a high-growth, fast-paced environment
• Strong team-player; can roll-up sleeves and pitch in wherever needed
• Strong leadership skills, with ability to clearly communicate effective legal solutions to leadership and colleagues in a collaborative yet consultative way that meet business objectives yet appropriately mitigate risks
• Interest and aspirations in developing career and eventually becoming a general counsel in the future

At BillionToOne, we are proud to offer a combination of a (1) base pay range (actual amount offered is based experience and salary/equity options split that the candidate chooses) (2) generous equity options offering, on top of (3) industry leading company benefits (free healthcare options, 401k match, very generous fully paid parental leave etc.).

For this position, we offer a total compensation package of $400,000, including a base pay range of $230,000-$250,000 per year.
