HOW YOU WILL SOAR:
As a member of the in-house Legal team at Millennium Trust Company, a fast growing, innovative, and leading provider of retirement, financial and consumer-directed services, the Associate General Counsel will lead a team of lawyers to provide legal support to the Company's various businesses teams. The responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to: advising on and managing threatened, pending and active litigation matters, responding to subpoenas, court orders, various state/federal agency requests, and other document productions; partnering with the Company's human resources department on matters; related to employee relations, employment law and employee benefits, reviewing marketing and sales materials; reviewing employer service agreements; advising on a variety of legal, business, tax, regulatory, human resources/labor law and operational issues; and analyzing new and proposed legislation and regulatory actions that may impact the Company. The ideal incumbent will provide legal advice in a wide variety of specialized areas of law, including but not limited to: litigation, labor and employment, ERISA, IRS regulations, IRS prohibited transactions, DOL regulations, HIPAA, GLBA, privacy and intellectual property.
This position will be a people leader and will manage a team of 2-5 lawyers, with responsibility for delegation and oversight of these lawyers.
  • Handle routine litigation and arbitration matters and work with and manage outside counsel on more complex matters
  • Respond to subpoenas, court orders, audits, state/federal agency requests and various regulatory requests
  • Provide support and guidance to Human Resources team on matters of employee relations, employment law and employee benefits
  • Provide creative legal solutions for new, complex, and innovative financial services, retirement and consumer directed benefits products and strategic initiatives
  • Proactively identify and assess firm-wide risk, and provide advice and guidance concerning compliance with federal, state and foreign laws, rules and regulations affecting the firm's lines of business, including drafting or revising policies, procedures and agreements in response to new or revised laws or regulations
  • Manage, mentor and guide paralegal(s) and more junior attorney(s); direct management responsibility for a team of 2-5 attorneys
  • Provide support and assistance to Deputy General Counsel and General Counsel in a variety of matters, as directed
  • Analyze new federal and state laws and regulations for applicability, risk, and impact to the business
  • Coordinate implementation of new laws with Compliance and with business partners
  • Directly engage in complex business matters, including development of product and support of strategic initiatives
  • Communicate proactively with clients, attorneys, and organizations to resolve discrepancies and disagreements
  • Other duties as assigned

IF YOU HAVE SOME OR ALL OF THE FOLLOWING, APPLY:
  • Bachelor's Degree, Juris Doctorate Degree Required
  • 10+ years of applicable experience
  • Experience with litigation and employment law
  • Experience managing a team of lawyers and managing a broad scope of subject matters, utilizing direct reports as SMEs
  • Working knowledge of the financial services, retirement and/or consumer directed benefits industries and applicable regulatory regimes
  • Experience with some of the following preferred: HSAs, consumer directed benefit products, automatic rollovers, custodial services, IRAs, or alternative investments
  • Ability to work collaboratively and effectively at all levels of the organization
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Strong time and case management skills; ability to shift quickly between substantive areas of law and the requirements of the different lines of business in a fast-paced environment
  • Commitment to professionalism
  • High level of integrity exercised internally and in representing the firm to outside parties
