Associate General Counsel, Government Contracts

Vast is looking for a highly skilled Associate General Counsel, Government Contracts to lead government contracts and other legal transactions in the aerospace industry. You will be responsible for negotiating and managing high value government contracts, partnerships and commercial agreements, developing scalable contracting processes, and supporting business development and sales teams. As a crucial member of the legal team in a rapidly expanding company, you must be willing to handle a variety of legal matters.

Responsibilities:

• Provide legal guidance on government contracting regulations, including Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR) and Defense Federal Acquisition Regulations Supplement (DFARS), and OTAs
• Serve as legal POC with various government agencies, to include FCC, NOAA, Department of State, and Department of Commerce
• Draft, analyze, negotiate and complete complex commercial transactions and government contracts with various government agencies and strategic partners, including procurement agreements, and IP licensing agreements
• Collaborate with the product, sales, and procurement teams to achieve key business objectives and provide strategic, business-minded, and solutions-focused legal advice
• Working with a small, collaborative legal team to solve novel, complex and challenging issues company-wide in a rapidly growing environment

Minimum Requirements:

• 10+ years combined experience in legal or  procurement role within a government agency and/or law firm, and in-house as government contractor
• JD with admission to practice law in a state bar in Good Standing
• Experience directly managing government contracts and procurements

• Proven ability to adapt to rapidly changing priorities and schedules with ease and grace
• Ability to simplify complex legal concepts into straightforward and concise explanations
• Experience implementing efficient processes and policies
• Comfortable operating outside of areas of expertise and in uncharted legal territory
• Knowledge of licensing and distribution, strategic partnerships, and intellectual property (patent, trade secret, copyright) protections and licensing arrangements
• Excellent communication, analytical, collaboration, and interpersonal skills
• Self-starter with excellent time-management and prioritization skills
• Familiarity with the aerospace industry and its unique legal challenges
• Experience advising on and negotiating government contracts
• Ability to identify and mitigate legal risks while enabling business objectives
• Demonstrated leadership and management skills
