Pluralsight Legal is looking for an Associate General Counsel to provide legal guidance on a variety of issues, including intellectual property, commercial terms, privacy, data protection and regulatory compliance matters relating to new and existing service offerings along with products and features throughout the entire product development lifecycle. You will collaborate with senior leaders to achieve Pluralsight's business objectives while providing practical, timely and effective legal counsel, minimizing potential legal risks related to privacy and data protection, including ongoing support and improvement of the company's privacy program, and training for business partners, globally. This role calls for a teammate who can manage across multiple partners and projects, lead cross-functional teams and operationalize objectives while minimizing privacy-related risks. This role will report to the Chief Legal Officer and may be located anywhere in the United States.

What you'll own:
- Provide leadership in refining and evolving a globally comprehensive privacy program, focused on assessing risks, designing and updating controls, monitoring and evidencing compliance
- Provide general compliance guidance to cross functional partners, work with partners to implement and operationalize such laws into our products and technology
- Provide legal guidance on product development initiatives relating to new and existing products and features throughout the product development lifecycle
- Work with cross-functional partners across the organization (incl. security, product and engineering teams) to identify privacy and data security requirements, obligations and standard methodologies, and translate them into executable technical and operational safeguards that can be implemented and tested
- Work collaboratively on and lead cross-functional projects related to data governance, data protection and privacy by design
- Work on other global privacy initiatives in furtherance of Pluralsight's legal obligations related to protecting the data of our customers, employees, vendors and other third parties
- Support privacy monitoring and assurance efforts, identifying risks and gaps, and developing and implementing critical mitigation and remediation efforts
- Respond to privacy and security-related customer and regulatory inquiries and investigations, and draft regulatory filings, coordinating such responses based on global requirements
- Develop and evolve privacy-related notices, policies, procedures, DPIAs and DPAs and support internal training efforts related to same
- Advise and work with product leaders in evaluating the applicability of privacy laws and regulatory guidance on product features and service offerings
- Support, as needed, Pluralsight's contracts team in negotiating privacy-related terms in commercial agreements with customers and vendors
Experience you'll need:
- J.D. degree (or foreign equivalent) and membership in at least one U.S. state bar
- 8+ years of experience on privacy legal and/or privacy program design, oversight and management for internal/external clients
- Experience building and implementing global privacy compliance, operations and risk management programs
- Experience testing, monitoring and assessing privacy programs
- Experience working with external auditors and/or regulatory inquiries involving privacy or information security
- Experience partnering with management across functions critical to a privacy organization, including product and engineering
- Experience prioritizing and managing multiple projects with varying deadlines
Preferred Qualifications
- Privacy and data protection, Information technology/information security experience (e.g. GDPR, CCPA, LGPD, FTC Act, data breach laws, etc.)
- An understanding of, and passion for, emerging technology and products
- Consulting or advisory experience on privacy matters
- Privacy certification (e.g. CIPP or CIPM or similar)
