Associate Genetics Scientist

We are seeking a highly motivated individual for an Associate Genetics Scientist to join the Genomic Sequencing Lab at J. R. Simplot Company. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong attention to detail and the ability to work collaboratively with other team members as well as across business units. The candidate will support efforts to optimize and generate routine NGS sequence data from a variety of species and sample types.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
1. Efficiently design and execute DNA extraction workflows from multiple species and tissue types
2. Design and execute NGS library prep workflows
3. Generate high quality NGS data
4. Optimize laboratory workflows using state of the art liquid handling and robotics
5. Manage laboratory scheduling to efficiently deliver high quality NGS sequencing results to internal customers
6. Apply laboratory quality control principles across a variety of protocols involving DNA extraction and sequencing
7. Efficiently manage laboratory protocols, sample tracking, and storage of NGS sequence data
8. Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams across multiple agricultural research disciplines including cattle and crop species
Required Skills/Abilities
1. Excellent attention to detail and strong desire to efficiently design and manage custom laboratory workflows
2. Self-motivated and strong problem-solving ability
3. Familiarity with library prep and NGS data generation and analysis is a plus
4. Experienced user in database storage and NGS analysis tools, e.g. SQL, AWS/Azure, Python, R, etc. is a plus
5. Highly collaborative and able to work well within multidisciplinary teams
Education And Experience
1. Bachelor of Science in molecular biology, biochemistry, or related field with 6+ years of experience, preferably in industry, or Masters with 2+ years of experience, preferably in industry
Extensive experience in nucleic acid process and manipulation, NGS assays, library prep workflows, sequencing platforms, etc.

Wage range or rate of pay: 60,000 - 75,000 Plus annual incentive plan eligibility
