This Opportunity
WSP is currently initiating a search for a Full-Time Associate Geologist for our Houston, TX office. The following locations will also be considered: Corpus Christi, TX; and Victoria, TX. Be involved in projects with our Earth and Environment Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client's objectives and solves their challenges. In this role you will participate in managing office and field-based tasks, performing investigations and preparing technical reports. The position will entail working with mid and upper-level managers to complete engaging projects.
Your Impact
- Performing field-based tasks such as multi-media sampling, soil boring and monitoring well installations, lithologic logging, and aquifer testing;
- Collecting and managing field and analytical data from investigations. Interpreting hydrogeological information and developing conceptual site models (CSMs) for assessment and remediation projects;
- Write technical reports summarizing research with findings and conclusions, generating complete, accurate, and concise documentation using electronic systems and software.
- Coordinating with contractors (e.g., drillers and analytical laboratories) to support project-specific objectives; and
- Communicating efficiently with Project Managers, team members and clients.
- Comply with safety guidelines and site-specific procedures which include but is not limited to, the maintenance of sample collection, laboratory documentation, written procedures, and field/work site logbooks.
- Work with cross-functional teams in executing project work.
- Assist with work plan preparation and coordination of field work permitting.
- Complete training on assigned tasks.
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Geology, Hydrogeology, or closely related discipline.
- 1 to 3 years of experience working as a Geologist.
- Ability to perform field-based tasks
- Willingness to travel (including overnight travel) and work in remote areas as dictated by project demands
- Accute attention to detail, with the ability to recognize discrepancies
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to a scientific and non-scientific audience.
- Capable self-leadership with attention to detail, accuracy, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as part of a team to meet business objectives.
- Strong technical and communication skills
- An aptitude for using and understanding computer applications.
- Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
- Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
- Must be able to pass a HAZWOPER physical and be medically able to wear a tight-fitting respirator.
- Must successfully complete and pass WSP's Motor Vehicle screening.
- This role is subject to a client-mandated drug/alcohol testing policy. As such, employee may be subject to random drug/alcohol tests. A copy of this policy will be provided during employee onboarding and is available upon applicant request.
- Relocation assistance is not available for this position.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's in Geology, Environmental Science, or a related field.
- Experience with implementation of assessment, investigation, remediation and monitoring tasks related to environmental projects.
