The leverage finance desk is looking to hire an strong-analyst/associate/VP level desk analyst. The role is to sit on the trading desk with traders and sales people to come up with trade ideas, develop relationships with the buy side, help create sales pitches, and advise traders on risk. We do not have a publishing mandate but rather draft short trade ideas and desk commentary.

The candidate should already have financial analysis and modeling skills and, ideally, familiarity on some of the names/industries that BMO underwrites. We will train on bond analytics if needed.

Financial Analysis and Modeling (25%)

• Read and analyze financial statements
• Build a financial model and project cash flows
• Create scenarios to assess credit quality and financial risk

Company and Industry analysis (25%)

• Thoroughly research the industry through company information, trade groups, and industry reports
• Track earnings releases, listen to earnings call
• Follow the rating agencies ratings, outlooks, and rational
• Communicate with company management to gather additional information
• Conduct covenant analysis on securities and loans
• Understand all regulatory developments and risks
• Frame the competitive risks, barriers to entry, relationships to suppliers and customers, and risks of obsolesce/changes in technology
• Track M&A in the industry, understand valuations, and monitor financing
• Build partnerships and contacts within BMO and the industry to become a company- and industry-expert

Formulate Relative Value Trade Ideas (25%)

• Develop a view on high yield bond/leverage loan valuation
• Construct and maintain relative value comparison charts
• Build graphs and spread history charts
• Compare and contrast credits based on credit metrics, industry analysis and covenants

Communicate with traders, salesforce, customers and banking (25%)

• Socialize potential ideas with traders to assess best recommendations to put forward
• Communicate well reasoned trade ideas
  • Write concise desk commentary
  • Verbally present trade ideas to trading and sales on our daily earnings call and to customers over the phone or in person
  • Write "scripts" for the salesforce to use to communicate with their customers
• Speak regularly in person and virtually with management teams to monitor the credit
• Discuss daily earnings releases, industry news, and highlight important trends

Compensation & Benefits:

Annual base salary: $100,000 - $140,000 USD. The base salary range represents the anticipated low and high end of the BMO Financial Group's salary range for this position. Actual salaries will vary and will be based on various factors, such as skill, experience and qualification for the role. This position is also eligible for a bonus plan. The base salary and potential bonus is one component of BMO Financial Group's total compensation package for employees. Compensation and Benefits:

The base salary represents BMO Financial Group's hiring range for this position. Actual salaries will vary and will be based on various factors, such as location, skills, experience, and qualification for the role. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked.

Base salary is one component of BMO Financial Group's total compensation package for employees, which may include performance-based incentives, commissions or discretionary bonuses, as well as other perks and rewards.
