We are seeking an Associate Inhouse Counsel for our Americas franchising headquarters located on Park Avenue in New York City. This position can be remote, however, occasional travel to headquarters may be required. The ideal candidate is a licensed attorney with direct experience handling all relevant aspects needed for franchising and a “can do'' attitude and vivid interest in collaborating on a variety of other corporate business matters in a growth focused company.  We are a team of professionals passionate about our brand and our network of sophisticated real estate professionals and are looking for a team player who shares the same values.

Your responsibilities

  • Review, draft and execute on all legal aspects of the company’s franchise offering (incl. Franchise Disclosure Document creation and renewals, franchise agreements and amendments as it relates to new franchises, renewals and/or terminations.
  • Support business teams in all franchise transactions and contractual compliance matters from inception through the term of the franchise relationship.
  • Collaborate with and guide business development teams when developing new international markets, as applicable, including creating compliance with country-specific disclosure, registration, and filing requirements.
  • Collaborate within the legal and service team to build, refine, and scale the company’s contract management and compliance processes.
  • Broad-based transactional work, including providing advice to internal stakeholders on contract interpretation, structuring of deals and negotiations with partners and vendors, as necessary.
  • Draft, review, approve and oversee key company agreements of all types, including technology, vendor, consulting, marketing, and licensing agreements.
  • Develop and advise on corporate policies and procedures and provide thought leadership on continuous process improvement opportunities.
  • Draft and review corporate documents/agreements and governance documentation, as necessary
  • Actively participate in enhancement of data privacy and data security compliance practices and policies
  • Support education and conduct training of the cross functional teams within the company on contractual and compliance related matters.
  • Coordinate and manage the engagement of various outside legal partners as required while optimizing the use of external legal services for the organization.

What we are looking for 

  • Juris Doctorate from an ABA accredited law school
  • Lawyer with a minimum of 3 years experience and expert knowledge of franchise laws and regulations (real estate franchising experience preferred)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills 
  • Superb interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to cultivate efficient, collaborative relationships between business teams and legal teams achieving best possible business outcomes
  • Business savvy and confident under pressure 
  • Flexible mindset, thriving in a “make it happen”, solution driven culture
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver fast and effectively high quality results while supporting business objectives and without compromising attention to detail
