Associate, Insights

Acumen is looking for an Associate with 2-4 years experience to support the work of our Insights & Strategy team. We are looking for someone with strong analytical skills, a facility with data and finance, and a commitment to working to end poverty. This role is based in NYC and Acumen is currently working under a hybrid model and people are in the office 3 days a week.

About the role
The Associate in Portfolio Insights will work as an integral member of the Insights & Strategy (I&S) Team as we plan and execute our org-wide strategy. Accountabilities include: 

• Analyze in-house financial and impact data (both qualitative and quantitative) to identify trends, important correlations, and influential insights. 
• Conduct targeted research and interviews to answer critical questions about impact investing, philanthropy, energy access, smallholder agriculture, and other portfolio areas.
• Project manage discrete research and impact initiatives; be responsible for keeping the overall team on schedule, keeping stakeholders informed of progress, and delivering quality outputs on time.
• Synthesize data and narrative into clear insights, supported by evidence, with recommendations for action.
• Help to brainstorm and test different systems for gathering insights and impact from Acumen’s portfolio.

  Skills and Qualifications

• 2-4 years of experience in investing, research, consulting, or economics.
• Bachelor's degree with a focus on social enterprise, economics, finance, or international development.
• Facility with financial data; ability to read a balance sheet, conduct ratio analysis, and interact with financial software (Acumen uses eFront).
• An investigative mind and an ability to synthesize disparate data to draw conclusions and propose recommendations.
• Strong project management and stakeholder management skills and experience managing internal teams towards a common objective.
• Organized and able to set up efficient systems for managing data, processes and information. 
• Ability to interview and communicate with team members in regional offices, board members , entrepreneurs, leaders across multiple sectors, time zones, and cultures
• Communicate complex ideas clearly.
