Associate Optical Engineer

Responsibilities and Duties:
- Candidate will be responsible for developing new optical transport technologies for Calix Optical Access Networks.
- Participating with experienced engineers, develop plans for assuring new optical transport technologies satisfy operating requirements of current and future Calix advanced fiber-access communications systems.
- Implement appropriate ethernet optics, enabling high speed internet communications for Calix optical communications platforms.
- Implement product development test automation tools for ensuring successful optical hardware design verification.
- The candidate is expected to demonstrate a deep sense of product ownership with a strong focus on customer satisfaction.
Qualifications:
- BS degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics or other relevant major.
- Must be proficient with optical and electrical test equipment: real-time and sampling oscilloscopes, optical spectrum analyzers, Optical to Electrical converters, DC power, data loggers, and more. Test equipment automation experience a plus.
- Candidate will need understanding of fundamental optical fiber communication components: high-speed semiconductor lasers, high-speed photodiodes, optical amplifiers, and optical fiber. Coherent transmission and silicon photonics knowledge is a plus.
- Must have Python programming experience and be familiar with revision control tools (Git).
- Our team collaborates within the broader product development team and business partners within Calix, as well as external strategic partners of Calix. Strong written and verbal communication skills is essential to our success.
- 0-3+ years of digital communication experience
- Familiarity with Ethernet standard (IEEE 802.3). TCP/IP experience is also desirable.
- Experience with MATLAB/Simulink or OptSim for optical communications system modelling.
- Must be proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Sharepoint.
- Linux operating system, Product Development Collaboration tools, and Product Data Management tools experience is a plus.
