Associate Principal, Disaster Recovery
Job Description
Summary
This role is responsible for Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery activities including definition and execution of processes and procedures, both internally and externally. Coordinates and ensures execution of Disaster Recovery, Crisis Management, and other Business Continuity exercises while maintaining relative documentation. Works closely with all departments to ensure business resiliency in case of a disruptive event.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Design, plan, schedule, and coordinate Disaster Recovery tests and exercises, evaluating the effectiveness and promoting any improvement activities that are considered necessary to meet the Business Continuity objectives
- Act as a liaison between various IT and business staff on matters related to Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity tests and exercises, including planning, execution and management reporting. Incumbent marshals IT and other resource required, and evaluates the effectiveness of Disaster Recovery tests and exercises, providing constructive feedback
- Assists in the training and educational processes associated with Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery in accordance with legal, regulatory and business requirements
- Create and maintain high level DR test plans and distributes at least one week prior to exercise to ensure team understands systems being tested
- Document all defects uncovered during disaster tests and follows up to ensure resolutions have been applied or defects identified for future testing
- Create and publish a standardized scorecard for each test
- Create, publish, and manage master test plans with cycle’s last and next test date
- Ensure review and update (if needed) of the following as indicated: Recovery Strategy annually; Notification Procedures quarterly and test annually; Critical functions/activities/processes annually; Departmental Business Interruption Plans at least annually or as warranted; Emergency Procedures annually; Threat Level Response Plans quarterly
- Create and maintain an audit log of all documents and procedures reviewed
- Provide sufficient documentation of testing activities to comply with internal and external audits as well as regulatory requirements

Qualifications
- [Required] Strong verbal and written communication skills
- [Required] Ability to interact with various teams, project members, and external contacts in a high intensity environment while effectively achieving desired results
- [Required] Detail oriented with knowledge of laws, regulations and business requirements regarding Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery assurance requirements
- [Required] Broad knowledge of information security controls related to Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery
- [Required] Abilities to design, schedule, and manage effective Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity exercises that provides the desired level of assurance while minimizing unnecessary testing costs and risks
- [Required] Working knowledge of data replication strategies, virtual platforms, and other technologies deemed vital to recovery and continuity goals
- [Required] Produce metrics and other management reports required by internal departments as well as regulatory agencies
- [Required] Seeks innovative solutions
- [Preferred] Knowledge of network technologies as they relate to AWS.
- [Preferred] ​Knowledge of security policies, network security, data security and security event management to adopt cloud security services.
Technical Skills
- [Required] Experience with Microsoft Office desktop tools (Project, Word, Excel, Visio)
- [Required] Working knowledge of critical production systems, data replication, cross platform system dependencies, and tools used to facilitate Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity
- [Required] Strong PC skills
- [Required] Knowledge of Disaster Recovery/Business Continuity terms and technology
- [Preferred] AWS Cloud Experience
Education and/or Experience
- [Required] 3 –5 years of experience coordinating disaster recovery testing, planning and business continuity practices
- [Required] Bachelor’s degree in Computer Information Systems or closely related discipline OR an equivalent combination of education and work experience
- [Preferred] Project management experience
Certifications
- [Preferred] Certified Business Continuity Planner (CBCP) or Associate Disaster Recovery Planner accreditation
- [Preferred] AWS certification
