Associate Scientist

This Associate Scientist will perform a variety of laboratory procedures to support Upstream Process Development. The position will perform daily work assignments accurately and in a timely and safe manner. This position will independently evaluate, select and apply standardized scientific and techniques; assignments have clear and specified objectives, and require the investigation of a limited number of variables. This position relies on limited experience and exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices in making minor adaptations and modifications.

The role:

• Accurately ships media samples to clients and fills out appropriate paperwork
• Accurately reviews batch records and other data, ensuring consistency
• Maintains the mammalian cell lines to be used in process development
• Set-up and daily monitoring of all the upstream process development runs, including flasks, shakers and stirred tank bioreactors up to 250L scale.
• Maintains project timelines
• Performs general lab housekeeping, including cleaning/sterilizing of lab and lab materials, disposal of trash and recyclables, autoclaving, ordering and stocking supplies, etc.
• Accurately completes routine and preventative maintenance on laboratory equipment
• Actively participates in team meetings
• Makes supplements, media, and/or buffers as necessary
• Writes equipment and media SOPs

The candidate:

• MS in Biotechnology, or related field with no previous industry laboratory experience
• B.S/B.A. in Biotechnology, or related field with at least 1 to 3 years' experience in a laboratory environment
• Associates Degree/Certificate/Diploma in laboratory science with minimum of 3 years' experience in a laboratory
• Experience operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting stirred vessel bioreactors or fermenters
• Aseptic technique experience
• Mammalian cell culture experience
• Good documentation practices (GDP)
