Job Purpose/Overview
An Associate Scientist is responsible for the development, design, implementation, and validation of new product formulations for Mars Wrigley. This role supports global new product innovation and reformulation that ensures our freedom to grow. This position plays an important role in delivering our innovation pipeline across multiple technologies, product formats, and brands. The successful candidate is expected to execute product development activities related to new product and technology development projects in partnership with global cross-functional teams.
What are we looking for?
- Bachelor of Science in a technical area including engineering, chemistry, food science or related.
- Proven hands-on experience in the development and successful launch products, packages, and/or processes with 0-3 years of experience.
- Experience in working with outside vendors to deliver project requirements.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, people development skills and learning agility.
- Experience working within flexible teams.
- Responsible for delivering product development activities at lab bench, pilot plant, and factory scale, partnering closely with Process R&D. Accountable for the execution of allocated programs and workstreams to bring projects through to commercialization.
- Ensures that the product development for enhanced favorites and the adjacency areas are delivered for the brands and that they are designed to meet the brand KQA's.
- Ensures that the product development process is carried out such that timelines are met to market products.
- Ensures that the product specifications are as accurate as possible to ensure correct costing.
- Ensures that Product quality and Manufacturing quality performance measures standards and corrective actions are specified for each new and current product to ensure performance at the required level for all manufactured products.
- Works with cross-functional teams in a design-thinking way of working to deliver new and novel innovation for the DS2 innovation area.
- Continually works with key team members in the innovation programs and ensures the technical feasibility of the projects.
- They will work with the IP team to identify and protect any new innovation.
- Connects with peers in other regions, other R&D functions and business units to share best practices and accelerate the global deployment of new innovations.
Context and Scope
Given a new product concept and in close collaboration with process development, develop a testing plan, experimental setup, test execution, and data analysis to quantify key formulation ranges and targets at lab, pilot, and factory scale.
Create formulas, specification targets, and ranges for production based on trials and data analysis to ensure the product meets quality standards and consumer expectations. Collaborate with and lead conversations with external suppliers as needed.
Actively participate in team engagement action planning and implementation.
Ensure the team delivers the highest possible level of safety standards, Quality Management Program compliance, and culture through individual training and actions, a focus on safety via project teams, and active participation on safety teams and committees.
