Job Purpose:

The Associate Scientist in Product Science is responsible for planning and executing research to deliver technical solutions for a variety of product platforms that enable quality, growth, and efficiency in accordance with Mars Wrigley business strategy. The candidate will be responsible for carrying out experimental plans to understand fundamental interactions of ingredient and food structure mechanisms, and for developing model prototypes and products for applications

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in food science, biochemistry, food/chemical engineering, or similar field
  • Previous experience or knowledge related to at least one of the following: quality, food science, product/process research, laboratory work, experimental design and/or plant trials.
  • Ability to work effectively in cross functional teams and build interpersonal relationships
  • Potential up to 20% travel

Preferred Qualifications

  • M.S. or PhD in food science, biochemistry, food/chemical engineering or similar field
  • 1+ years relevant R&D experience in the food industry or related field and/or academic research experience

What will be your key responsibilities?

  • Understand and independently conduct experiments to provide accurate and timely data, including calculations and interpretation, using techniques such as rheometry, calorimetry, spectroscopy, and mechanical testing as applied to chocolate, gum and confectionery products.
  • Contribute to advanced level research programs in partnership with more senior associates which will deliver new solutions aligned with the strategic priorities of the business
  • Run technical tests and analysis on food ingredients and products as well as making prototypes.
  • Operate, verify calibration of and maintain core instrumentation (FT-IR, Rheometers, DSC etc.) and related support materials.
  • Assist in product analyses and related project support with strong guidance of Manager or more senior associate.
  • Develop ingredient based model systems for core products and/or new product platforms. Document critical observations during experimentation
  • Analyze, evaluate and interpret results to ensure data integrity and accuracy.
  • Perform basic technical writing for the generation of routine standard operating procedures, test methods and other technical reports.
  • Understand and follow safety and quality requirements when working in the lab. Participate in Safety and Quality audits
