Orbis is seeking a Technical Writer with experience writing assembly, installation, operation, and maintenance documentation for physical products for industrial, manufacturing, and consumer products companies.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Write and update assembly, installation, operation, and maintenance documentation for physical products for industrial, manufacturing, and consumer products companies.
  • Write and update software user guides and online help.
  • Ensure that the documents are accurate and follow the clearly defined standards.
  • Create new documents as required.
  • Coordinate with subject matter experts, project manager, and writing team to ensure that the correct information gets to the right people and that the documentation is accurate, following clearly defined standards.
  • Be detail-oriented and understand the principles of good technical writing.

Experience and Skills

Mandatory Requirements & Qualifications:

  • U.S. citizenship
  • 1-2 years experience in technical writing, with technical writing being your primary job function.
  • Bachelor's degree in technical writing, journalism, communications, or related field.
  • Aptitude for understanding software products and physical products.
  • Experience with researching and gathering relevant technical data from subject matter experts.
  • Possess excellent interpersonal and general business communication skills.
  • Experience working independently as well as in a team-oriented, collaborative environment

Preferred Skills & Qualifications:

  • In-depth knowledge of standards and best practices for writing software and product documentation.
  • Experience using the following applications: MadCap Flare or InDesign.
  • HTML
  • DITA/XML

Optional Experience Preferences:

  • Microsoft Word
  • Adobe Acrobat Professional
Work Hours & Location:

Full-time, exempt position with hours of operations from Monday to Friday, between 8 am to 5 pm. This is an in-person position. We have offices in Annapolis, MD; Brookfield, WI; Orlando, FL; and Durham, NC.
